Since all farms can accomodate cabins...

Does that mean, that the lack of space (for non-buildings at least), had been an "illusion"?

Since 1x cabin fully upgraded = 586x spaces to place something...

Using cabins as single-player extra storage, especially upgraded with false secondary accounts, is arguably cheating, so saying that it makes the lack of space an illusion would be like saying the difficulty of early game money is an illusion when you're using a mod to give you extra cash.

Also, not everyone has the ability to upgrade cabins. I may like the game, but I am not buying a second switch to add another player. So the closest I can get is bribing a human to play with me for the time it would take to install and upgrade a cabin.

Cabin space is limiting in some ways.

Initial size is smaller than the Big Shed.
You need other accounts to upgrade a Cabin.
You can only plant in Pots and you need to water manually so they're a pretty poor replacement for Farmable land.

However Cabins have:

A nice exterior variety for Farm design.
An offset interior door location which some may find useful (lol even though it's opposite of the smaller Cabin/Farmhouse exterior)
A pre-decorated interior instead of the identical bland Shed.

Psst ... deluxe retaining soil. Water once and never again.

Unfortunately, you cannot grow grass indoors. I may do a trial of wheat in pots with a rack of seed makers, but it will probably be a lot of work for very little hay.

Hmm, I mean while it is ideal to have another human to play SDV together, even on the Switch, cabins are pretty easy as things go - I believe you can even just do split-screen co-op with the two joycons that come with the switch. I have a Pro-Controller so I've been using that and my joycons, so maybe the solo joycons can't work(?) but I doubt that.

On topic: maybe it's because I started with the worst map for space efficiency lol, but nowadays I feel like I just have plenty of rooms and spacing was never an issue for me. Occasionally, I would borrow real estate from other parts of the map (Secret Woods, etc.) to decorate and use as well, but I find that a bit disrespectful to all the other townfolks / forest critters, so I try to limit that when I can.

Well, I'll have to keep that in mind for if/when I want to give it a go. The last time I tried, we could not connect the joycons. Mine is a Switch Lite, so it doesn't come with any. So to get anywhere, I have to pry one of my friends loose from their pokémon and Zelda addictions.

I upgraded (to the max before 1.6) and decorated 3 farmhand cabins all on my own for switch without others! And had them marry certain spouses for items I wanted...

Vaguely gestures at overpriced and eternally drifting joycons Nintendo has priced at... $80 for both, $40 for one, and $30 for a "refurbished" one...
I really recommend Pro Controller or even a third party lol, I've already had more than a few drifted on me, but maybe I play a lot too, contributing to the cause...

Not really:
1. first off, it's not intended, cabins are meant for each player that's playing multiplayer for their own needs/there is no current way to buy and upgrade them on your own/there would be no reason for sheds to exist (big shed introduced after cabins, if using them for space was intended this would have been really weird)
2. there's a limit of 3/7 if on pc (mobile maybe?) cabins, that means 'only' whatever 1500/3500 machines, which isn't really that much in the grand scheme of comparing them to sheds which aren't that bad themselves, heck, you can fit something like 2800 machines just straight on the farm by themselves
3. the argument for space is already rather artificial, you can fit so many sheds on the farm that space becomes trivial (as you become limited by time), it's primarily one of balancing aesthetic for those who don't like/don't want a lot of buildings and are unwilling to use the off farm space for the same aesthetic reasons or they're misguided into thinking it's less efficient.

Could I get some help with this? I saw an inexpensive controller that stated it was compatible with the Switch Lite - which it is, it can sync and take over control easily. However, that is ALL it can do. Any time I try to initiate split-screen, control of the single player goes to the new controller and there is no option to create a new player.

Ohhh... I don't think it would work on switch lite... you can't have more than one controller connected
