1.6 Update What happened in your game today?

I've decided I'm adopting a dog and a turtle, partly for the novelty (I've always gone with the cat, Mojo is still staying though! He's been here since the beginning and it wouldn't be the same without his dozy orange butt underfoot, lol) and partly because some of the gift drops are things I like collecting. And who doesn't want a fancy purple turtle? Now, to find a couple of spots for new pet bowls...

Did anyone else know that fish the cat gives you are affected by the same modifyers as catching them yourself, as set by the time you pet them? Season, time, weather, even magic bait and targeted bait. You can get any currently available mountain lake fish or forest river fish, except the legendaries, extended family or goby.

Now I'm wondering how many different fish you could get without actually fishing - ie no fishing rod or crab pots. We've got the travelling cart, Krobus, trash cans, the shelled types on the beach, a few monster drops, panning, now add a farmful of cats you can set up to actually target fish with... wait, it doesn't say anything about using up bait, would you only ever need one piece? Is this an eternal bait scenario?... Wait, you need fishing level 2 to get a baitable rod... what about fish ponds... hmm, wiki says "No fishing experience is gained by harvesting fish from a pond. However, fishing experience is gained when completing fish pond quests or collecting items produced by a pond."... so you can level up fishing skill that way to get a better rod without actually ever using a rod to catch any fish... hang on, bait availability is recipe/level/stuff dependent, so you'd need to level for those as well...

.... I need a cup of tea. If anyone wants to actually figure out this 'CatFishing' challenge, let me know. (Yeah I know it wouldn't be just cats but I'm not passing up on that name :toothy: )

Desert festival crashed twice and had to start the day all over, multiplayer seems to crash a lot on switch sadly. Emily came one day to the desert out of the three (when she wasn't stuck in the fence) and I got tight pants, but then the came crashed when I tried multiplayer to try get a hat from Emily.

Got the magic hair gel and the 3 hats from the calico egg trader at least!!! I still have to collect 11 hats from the new update (5 from the desert festival that I'll have to wait at least another year for now), get 3 more books, complete two more raccoon quests, get the trash catalogue, get the basilisk paw, and get the ice rod.

Crashes always suck, glad you got some collection stuff though. I love the magic hair gel, I only swap it out for mine or Skull Cavern trips. I'm a brightly-haired person IRL so I guess it makes me feel more at home. 😆

My experience so far has been if there's not much going on in the day, I can maybe squeeze in two additional multiplayers before it crashes
If there's already stuff happening for that day, I can squeeze in a new multiplayer but I must not end its session or the game crashes
If your farm is full of pigs and Junimos and is already lagging in single player, you need to do it inside the house or the game crashes

If you follow roughly the same expectations above, you should be safe from crashes most of the time. I tend to just use Day 1 to grab a cactus from the other two profiles and then Day 2 to grab the last cactus from the last profile.

Pre 1.6 it was more like 5 multiplayers before it crashes and if you are starting your save over and over again (e.g., to grind Living Hats), then it crashes after 20-30 minutes.

Magic Hair Gel is awesome! Nothing less expected of Alex

I picked up a Perfect Magic Quiver and decided to give it a test run. It is one of the funniest things I have ever seen. I can stand in the middle of my farm and watch it kill a serpent by itself, without ever taking damage. Also, it makes a silly noise.

In other news, I am up to Selenium; Krypton is next, and then I've got to finish coop number four. I'm collecting the necessary supplies to replant the greenhouse with deluxe fertilized ancient fruit. I haven't planned out what to do with Ginger Island yet, but it will probably include a wheat field with seed makers.

I've been crunching some numbers based on my playthrough of my current file.

After proposing to Abby on Fall 7 Year 2, the first baby came sometime in Winter year 2 and the second baby came at the end of Fall Year 3, and the first festival both kids went together was the Year 4 Moonlight Jellies.

So in order for the full family to experience every festival that the game lets the kids go to and complete my family scrapbook, it will be once we reach the Year 6 Luau.

Oh, and I'm 2 stages away from beating Prairie King without dying. That gave me an idea for anyone good at modding: make it so Abby's 2-heart multiplayer of the game can be done for all stages after winning the arcade machine and planting it home if you're married to her. A shared novelty experience that sounds just perfect to me.

This explains the way he sleeps. He's avoiding his pillow to ensure he doesn't crush the eggs he's trying to hatch under there. Note for any Farmers married to him: stay on your side of the bed.
Does he not know about the incubator in the coop?

I still haven't gone back to the island, but Huntress Farm is looking nice.

Crop Fairy Year 5 Spring.jpg

I appreciate that the Crop Fairy went for my strawberries and didn't mess with my flow of one-off crops.
Pot of Irish Gold in the Rain.jpg

Made some time after the Desert Festival to check out the Irish pot of gold and got another Leprechaun Hat
Skinny Chicken Leg Farmer.jpg

I didn't realize that our farmers had such chicken legs.
Gil 55!.jpg

Yes, Gil. I finally decided to go for broke in the mines and get the best reward you had in stock.
Haul From Egg Rating 55 at Desert Festival Year 5 Day 1.jpg

My haul from my rating 55 dive, minus the wallpapers I got from Jas
Red Mushroom Jewelery for Emily.jpg

Wonder how Emily plans to make jewelry out of the red mushroom.

I just discovered that bum rushing level 100 skull cavern is MUCH easier if you have a fast magic quiver equipped. The arrows knock back serpents far enough that you only have to worry if three or more are swarming you. I used staircases but might have been able to do it with mostly bombs. I even did it on an unlucky day, with the skull cavern invasion quest active.

today i accidentally placed a chair on the catalouge, any ideas how to remove it. its hella annoying thanks!
It depends on your device 🤔, but regardless if you are absolutely stuck, all of them should have some type of mouse you can hover directly over the chair to remove it. I make this mistake quite often while decorating, it may take some trial and error, but it should definitely be removable.

Despite the solid high number of lightning rods on my farm, it seems a lightning bolt still took out one of my bean starters. Not that big a deal, but still surprising. Maybe I spent too much time working on the farm that day.
Is this based on time spent on farm? Sometimes I sleep through the entire day and lightning still breaks my stuff haha

Time to ditch my parrot I guess... at least for the cavern runs. It's cute but I absolutely have no need for money at the moment. I was previously gonna do Basilisk Paw, but if with the Magic Quiver, you can never be touched then you can never be statused? What a perfect counter to the Magma Sparkers and Putrid Ghosts

Also I finally got a level 5 Fairy trinket. Now only missing a void frog. :toothy:

Abigail stole Paddy's. He had it equipped and she ran into him.
Abigail: What am I supposed to do with this?!?
Paddy: I don't know hon, you need combat mastery to use it and that's not going to happen if all you ever do is march in place at level 20 in the local mines.

He's got a level two fairy box now, and it's adequate, but still grumpy about the level 5. It wouldn't have happened if he had already given her her amethyst of the day, but she ran into him just as he was about to equip it to give to her.

Huntress Farm update:
  • Farmer Helena is now a master of the five ways.
  • I finally got a frog egg to put into one of the two lovely terrariums I set up for Sebastian and Helena's frog and toad sanctuary.
  • I built an anvil to reroll duplicate color frog eggs for the future.
  • Sebastian has been found starting at the single blue-green frog in it's terrrarium on three seperate occasions, so I think he likes it.
  • I got a couple more purple slime eggs and culled some of the blue slimes in my hutch. Between the new purples and the previous reds, there is finally starting to be a variety of colors.
  • I completed the prismatic slime quest and got a bonus jar of prismatic slime (why can't my farmer jar slime?) that graced the dining table until the quest ended.
  • I got an auto-petter from a golden mystery box so my ducks, chickens, and dino are all doubley petted now.
  • I completed the pirates wife quest.
  • I only need a few more golden coconuts to unlock the island farm so I can get the option to unlock the island resourt and finally catch a stingray. I have a pond ready and waiting for it!
  • Three serpents spawned on my farm at once. And a purple slime, but my farmer was wearing her slime ring so that one didn't really matter. Plus, it couldn't figure outto go around the bee hives and just kept bouncing into them. It was actually kinda cute.
  • I went into Pam's house for a delivery and triggered four cutscenes in a row. One of which was apparently necessary to unlock the fishing channel as a reward for the potato quest I completed the previous season.
