Standard Farm Ranger's Free Leaf Farm

Hey guys, so I was planning to do this in video format but I've got too much on my plate right now, but I did tell you guys that I would showcase a tree farm sometime soon. This is mostly going to be a relaxed farm blog-type thread, but I hope you guys enjoy.

Anyways, I started off with my farmer being a random choice, and stopped on my customary heart shirt. I like the skull shirt too, but this seemed like a heart shirt farm. Fortunately, the random character actually looks pretty decent, and I didn't have to make any changes at all, lol. I also went with the customary name of "Dude", because it makes me laugh when the villagers call him dude, and also the cat's default name is Dudley. It works, okay?

Okay, so to start by explaining the premise of this farm, I need to tell you guys that it is just going to be a tree/forestry farm for the most part. One of the things I've learned from doing this style of farm, is that you can adjust the forest density by how you harvest the trees. As most of you know, a tree cannot grow to its last full stage unless there is no tree in any of the 8 tiles next to it. In previous saves, I have harvested trees once a tree is ready to grow to that final stage. They are easier to spot, and it gives the parent tree more time to spread tree seeds while the new plant grows. However, this time, I am harvesting trees whenever I see a seed next to a tree. This will make for a less dense forest, marginally, and also lessen my upkeep on how often I'm harvesting. I might change that later, and really, I could harvest the parent tree at any stage of the new tree's life, but we'll just leave it at that for now.

So after clearing the farm, this is vaguely what it looks like. I didn't clear rocks unless they were really in the way (of either tree growth or myself), but I am pretty sure rocks grow...like, they spread like weeds yo. I'll take other screens later so you can see what I mean, but is anyone else able to confirm this? Anyways, happy trees.

Shortly after that, I went on my Junimo Spirit Journey. I thought it was fitting so I took a picture of it. Now, normally I marry Haley in almost all of my saves, but I'll probably marry Leah this time, just because it's very fitting and I think she will enjoy it.

On this farm, I will probably be farming as little as possible, but I will make a few plots here and there. This picture is a little old, but I am mostly planting seeds that I need or find. I've got some green beans and potates that I've bought and that's about it.
Screenshot_20241110-142412.png

Oh, speaking of potates, I turned on remixed bundles, and they want quality potatoes instead of snips, okay no prob whatevs. However, when I went to go check the bundles for the first time I was like "huh, they're all default bundles, okay cool", without really looking too closely. I go back with all the usual spring forage and...what's this? Where do I put my daffodils? Spring onions?! Nooooo! I had to wait a few days for some spring onions to grow. I then looked through some of the rest, and it's a good thing I did, because I almost bought a red cabbage from the cart lady, when it's not even in a bundle this time, some other new crop instead, unless I'm missing something, which I probably am. I just wanted to check tho, all the bundles for default haven't changed right? Okay, cool.

Something else that happened to me that was a little strange, I went fishing in the ocean for the first timer fish and pulled up a sunfish............... Okay, so I know the mechanics behind why this happened, but sunfish totally don't live in the ocean. Is this a bug or did this sunfish somehow evolve to live in the ocean?

Anyways, here's a pic of my farm, just before the egg festival, in which I will crush Abigail.

my customary heart shirt
I also have a customary shirt. It helps me find my farmer at the beginning when I'm still trying to remember what they look like.

The seeds planted all by their lonesome look cool, but not easy to water. Do you ever miss one when watering?

They are all wild seeds, and eventually I will be scattering them throughout the forest with hidden basic sprinklers, but no, this time I only missed the green beans because that dern tree was in the way!

Edit: here's what they look like when they're all growed up.

LOL this is exactly how I let my Trees and Mushroom Trees spread.

This sounds like fun, I may adopt it for my next Farm.

Yes! Rocks certainly "grow" and spread, especially at the change of Seasons, you'll continue to accumulate more if you have free tiles along with Grass, Wood, and Weeds.

LOL at one time I knew why this happened but now I just chalk it up to Nature trying out new ecological niches once in a while.

Small update, Abby beat me by I think one egg. I am not used to egg hunting on mobile, and am utterly devastated. Until we meet again, miss purple-hair-wont-talk-to-me-while-playing-flute...until we meet again...

One of Lew's favorite weapons, the insect head. It's a reward you'll get eventually if you spend any significant amount of time in the mines
I find the Insect Head very pleasant to wield.

It is a silly thing but so inspired and different at the same time. It's so Stardew to me, though I welcome any knowledge of other games with similar weapons which could have inspired its inclusion in an erstwhile cozy farming simulator.

Honestly, it's one of my faves as well, and use it well into the mines. Speaking of which, man, it's been a struggle getting used to cave diving on a mobile. I'm pretty good on a PC, not the best by any means, but still pretty good. But man, I am struggling on some of these floors below level 40. I even found the invisible joysticks and that's only marginally better. I have a feeling it's going to be an iridium cat farm. :iristar::stardrop::butterfly::wizard::abigail::ca::iridium:

Seems like a really fun start to a save, I love the forest idea. I'm really into sustainable integrated food forests in real life so I've been thinking about trying to make on in stardew, this may just be my inspiration for it

Honestly, it's a good start. As a cook who loves meat it helps me see other paths, even if I will always eat meat. Much heart <3

I just love your tree farms and showing us just how beautiful and valuable they are. I love farms that think outside the box of wines, ales and beers. Leah would absolutely love that idea for a farm! I always feel so guilty deforesting her forest and robbing her of the greenery she loves and even talks about caring for often.

lol yeah it definitely is uniquely Stardew. I believe it was in Stardew Valley Expanded that Gil one time told me laughingly how useless it really was and yet still included in his rewards! 😂😂😂. I actually find the helmet, mask and hat much more useless, though I’m not a clothing diva/collector like you Lew! 😁
