That's fair, though I will say all spouses redecorate, I'm married to Emily and she places down a bunch of plants and chairs that mildly frustrate me

OK the absolutely insane amount of clutter in the farmhouse must be preventing Emily from redoing anything as I'm 3+ years in with zero new chairs (the Pink Dentist Chair is practically a Stardew tradition!) and no flooring/wallpaper. For the things on the floor, there really are only a few spots which have greater than a single tile gap so that very likely could prevent a spouse from adding to the house and the blocking off a section. And maybe if you change the wallpaper/flooring often enough it resets/delays the Spouse suggestion. I haven't done it that too much but I occasionally swap something new in and then hate it and swap back.

Elliott (my vote put him in the lead for now 
), because he has many things in common with my real-life spouse, is always polite and pleasant and older and more mature than most of the others, doesn't have issues, and lives outside the main town area.
He can be a bit tricky to catch out, and if it rains on his birthday it can be literally impossible to give him a gift since he never leaves his cabin -- but nobody is perfect.
Shane has massive issues, Emily is too eccentric and I hate her 2-star event (skip it every time), and when it comes to Penny I agree with the "she's too much of a mom" comment.
Sebastian smokes (instant rejection), and Haley is too much of an airhead.
The rest are cool, I just wouldn't marry any of them.
