Hello there,

I've encountered a bug concerning the quests for large numbers of items requested by villagers.

I've had one from Willis that asked me to get him 100 bug meats, something that I already had in my chests at the farm. So I simply dumped the 100 bug meats in the barrel next to the fishing shop but the quest was never completed since I also had to "collect" 100 bug meats by going in the mines to kills bugs. That step of the quest become irrelevent if you already have what the quest asks for in your storage.

It seems like all the quests from that board requires the player to collect the item before giving them away but, for those who already have what is needed in storage, that step is useless and make it so that you miss the quest if you don't do it. So I've lost 100 bug meats for litteraly no reason.

I don't know if it's made on purpose but that makes me kind of want to ignore those quests in the future because of that.

No it’s not a bug. You have to gather the items new and then place them in the bucket. Alternatively, you CAN still put bug meat that you collected prior to the quest in the bucket first (in case you are pressed for time during the quest and might not make it back to Willy’s in time after a late night mine run) BUT you STILL have to collect 100 pieces of bug meat during the quest. All the collection quests are like that.

The rewards are a 1000+ gold for all, plus handy new crafting recipes you can’t get elsewhere in the game. Some are very very useful, others not as much but still needed for the craft-master star in your achievements menu and much later on for perfection if you go that far.

Well, to have to collect the items when you already have them in storage is just dumb. I get that 1000g can be alot but when you get to 500000+ in your wallet you don't really care about 1k. I get that there's other rewards for the completion of these quests that leads to the 100% achievements of the game but, I just don't get why the collecting of the items are a requirement when you can already afford them.

That collecting part of the quest should take in account all the items you have in your inventory and not only those you collect. To me, that looks like an error in the coding of those quests. ConcernedApe did a marvelous job with this game and I absolutely love it, but that feature is really annoying and that is why I consider it to be a bug that needs to be fixed.

That’s just the way the quests are designed. They want you to do a task as specified, and then you get a monetary reward and often a crafting recipe as well. If they aren’t your cup of tea then just ignore them. But, no, it’s not a bug. It’s just designed to be completed exactly as specified even if that doesn’t make sense. They certainly aren’t necessary to enjoy the game, only for the Master Crafter achievement or Perfection. Some of the items really do make farming easier though, such as Cave Patrol, for the geode crusher. No more trips to Clint’s for all but a couple of the crushables found in late game. A few others are really good too. But, again, none are necessary except for the Master Crafter achievement goal or Perfection. Hope that helps. But, certainly enjoy the game your way. Not everyone likes every quest or achievement or is working towards Perfection. Some people avoid other aspects of the game too such as fishing or mining or socializing. It truly is made to be played for fun, in your way, in your time, with your goals in mind. Happy SDV gaming! 🙂

I think it’s designed this way to keep players occupied even if they have been hoarding stuff for years.

If you fail to complete the quest, you can get all the stuff you put in back at Mayor Lewis‘ lost and found box.

Yes this, which I’ve done several times. OP, do agree it can seem tedious and even annoying, but it’s just something else to do. Also it’s a challenge for some to collect some of the items in a certain amount of time. For me the fishing ones are.
