When do you like to start a new farm?

At first I started over when I realized I could do something better or sooner. Then I started over on reaching perfection, trying new maps and spouses for each new save, and competing with my past self. Now I'm on a save where I'm taking it easier, and determined to keep playing even after I visit the summit.

Do you always hit 100% before starting a new farm? When is the moment you decide, Hey, I wanna give it another go? Try a diff way?

*I have multiple farms going depending on my mood lol* Im looking to see how others decide.
It depends. Most of the time, I play until I feel like I've achieved everything I can in that game, which doesn't necessarily mean perfection. Sometimes the game gets stuck or becomes boring... Basically, it's a new farm, a new strategy, a new spouse. I recently started my sixth game with new settings again and overall it's still very entertaining.

I like to have a challenge or plan for every save, so I start a new farm whenever I come up with something I want to try. Some files get abandoned if I think I can do the same thing but faster/more efficiently, or if I just get bored of the idea. My longest running so far is the 120 rabbit save, which still requires golden crackers for, hm, 1/4 of the rabbits. It's the only one I have perfection on, by paying for the walnuts that I have trouble with. I'm doing another one right now where I am trying to come up with a good plan for the Four Corners layout, which is failing spectacularly because the house is just a little bit wider than I realized, and I did not understand how hard it is to play on 25% profit (I might be failing Grandpa's evaluation in a few weeks). I'm keeping it up because this farmer is romancing Harvey, and I want to see his heart events.

In the time I've had SDV, I've started new saves to try out new maps: I think at this point I've gotten to a "success" point on most of them. 'Success' is money not being an issue, the greenhouse completed, etc. Sometimes I'll start a new save if I want to try out something -- like beating my record for reaching 120 in the mines. (Currently: Spring 26.) In the different playthroughs I've done, I've tried new things (like decorative flower-planting on paths) and then incorporated them into my primary save. Of course, my primary save is on a Riverside farm, and after experiencing the regular one riverside makes me feel hemmed in.

I start all over again everytime I reach a point where there are no challenges, money is not a problem, side quests too easy or when i want to decorate everyting in a new way or try a new challenge...
Even tho I usually forget what I'm doing on that run and delete the save to start a new one

I have no stamina so I actually only once completed the community centre before getting bored of my save and starting a new one.

Farmer
Hmm. The last farmers I started were:
Mel: 1.6 was out, but I needed to leave my then main farmer in 1.5 due to him being a heavily modded run with a very specific theme. So I saved him separately and started a much more lightly modded farmer for the update. Mel is fishing focused and she's not supposed to pick up forage now she finished the CC room (chopping trees and clearing ground are fine, and once in a while you just need to nab a sweetpea that's right there when you have nothing better on hand to gift the villager who's also right there.)

Sarah: Sarah is my current Android farmer. I started her on realising that while Android has a much more limited number of mods it can do, I could actually try Stardew Valley Expanded somewhere where it wouldn't get in the way of my regular game. Sarah likes farming and having cute animals.

Whimsy: Whimsy isn't a farmer. She's a mod testing resource disguised as a farmer. She has all the mods that are useful for manipulating game circumstances so I can check whether a mod is working. (Which also means all the things that, for a normal farmer, are WAAAY too much like cheating). I only play her when I need to check whether a crop grew, whether a hat showed up in the shop or whether an event ran.... but sometimes after the fifteenth iteration of the same event, I play through the full day and do some regular Stardew things (forage, fish, plant, chat up villagers) so I can feel normal again. (This is how she got all the way to Spring 16 year 1).

I start a new save whenever I get bored. I only play 1 save at a time otherwise I get confused. The vast majority of my saves I stopped playing in either year 1 or year 4. The year 1 saved are where I had a great idea that ended up not being fun (like the save I decided to accept every single help-wanted quest). The year 4 is either shortly before or shortly after perfection, when I've met most of my goals and am just sort of coasting.

I only have three save files at the moment.
1. My first farm, run to Perfection
2. My second farm, started to try another marriage candidate and the Joja Route. Either at Perfection or nearly there.
3. My first modded farm, featuring Gaston

For Farm 2, I wanted to try another playthrough now that I had played the game once and started to have a good idea of what to do in it. I tried a few self-imposed challenges, including catching all fish in Year 1 and using 50% profit margins. I made it work pretty well and it got me started on fun and quirky play styles.

For Farm 3, I wanted to try out mods (Stardew Valley Expanded, Automate, a bunch of Quality of Life mods (skill XP bars, Daily Screenshot, button to add to nearby chests, etc.) but nothing too cheesy (Chests Anywhere and the "Easier Fishing" mods, I'm looking at you). I was getting bored of playing as myself or some generic guy (which if we're being real, I suppose I am) and realized how funny it would be if I tried to play as Gaston from Disney's Beauty and the Beast while being as true to his character as possible. You can make a fairly convincing Gaston using the clothes available to start out with, turns out.

For the as-yet-unmade Farm 4, Gaston is in Fall Year 3, and I'm starting to get ideas for another character-based run. Furthermore, I've been looking into additional mods to add to my game (and I have some mods I want to remove) as well as some alternative farm maps. So I might put the Gaston savefile on hold once it hits Winter and move on to greener pastures more flowery fields. I'll post that one in the Farm Showcase forum once I start it up, which might be anywhere from days to months from now. Expect lots of sunflowers!
