Switch Update 1.6 causing crash on Switch for split screen

Me and my partner started our first run through. We are at day 20 of spring and the game has crashed probably 12 times. It has crashed several times at bed time so the day saves but we need to relaunch the gave. The rest of the time it happens randomly in the middle of the day and we lose progress. Is there any work being done to remedy this because we are becoming disheartened about losing progress.
Other bugs: ~2 second lag every couple of minutes. Mine glitches out so that I can break rocks but nothing drops out of them and I can’t collect anything in the floor.

Same issues on Xbox after updating to 1.6. It seems that on PC similar issues were fixed but we have to wait for patch to be released for consoles. Co-op is unfortunately almost unplayable now, especially when exploring mines, skull cavern or volcano.

hi, seeing the same issue with split screen coop on switch v1.6.9.37. Ive glanced through the comments and have experienced most of these issues. By far the most frustrating one is end of day game crash. Im a little concerned that this doesn’t seem to be getting the devs attention even after this thread has been open for so long… is there anything I can do to provide information to assist in debugging?

This is extremely frustrating because I have often lost rare items due to crashes. It totally messes up the gameplay. This game is essentially unplayable on the switch at this point because of this uncertainty of game crash.

Just adding my voice to this. Switch Stardew Split screen has always been crashy, but the 1.6 update really made it worse.
  • Plenty of hitches, 0.5-2s long.
  • Broken mine (Normal and Desert, not sure about Volcano) levels where sprites don't disappear and nothing is lootable.
  • Fire spitting dinosaurs crumpling the game to 1fps.
  • Plain game crash, either in the middle of the game (and you loose all daily progress) or after saving (annoying but less so).

Adding that this is also happening for us on split screen switch. At the start it seemed to be at the end of the day immediately after saving but it’s gradually been getting more frequent towards the end of the day meaning you have to do the whole day again :( I can’t spot any pattern, the mini lags, mine glitch and buzzing sound while fishing are also happening but I can live with that, the random crashes are making the game almost unplayable now though. We’ve just finished spring year 2

I have also had all the issues that have been reported by the op and others playing split screen with the Switch.

CRASH GLITCH TEMPORARY FIX FOUND:

This is concerning the recent 1.6.9 Switch multi-player freeze / crash glitch (also possibly Xbox).

My roommate started playing Stardew by my rec ~month or 2 ago. She started her own individual account because I didn't end up liking the game at first (playing single-player). Eventually, I joined into her farm about 3 seasons after she started the game. I'm not sure if this condition matters to the freezing. Looking at the forums, I don't think so.

I saw someone on the forums mention that it might be a "memory storage" problem or something along those lines. So I had us reset the game completely - back to the Switch home menu - and completely re-enter. Every 2 days. Our game was freezing about every 4-6 days in game time before. Now? We just went through a full season without a crash. Mining, caves, events, end-of-day saving - all of it worked. Some hickups and noise glitches sometimes still. NO DELETING OF PROGRESS. It saved every night. Thankfully.

Try this and see if it works.

Yes, this works. After playing every three in-game days in a row, my partner and I will save and quit, exit the software, restart the Switch, and then continue playing with no crashing. Occasionally, the mines will glitch out still, but then we are able to just leave the mines and re-enter with no problems. We just finished one year in game with no crashes at all.

We also figured this out because someone on the forums mentioned a memory issue and the game crashing every 4-6 days. I'm not sure what the issue is, but restart your game every three days to avoid crashing.

Just confirming that closing the game and restarting after 3 days keeps the game going (well, except that you have to make it stop...). Other issues (stuttering, broken mine levels...) still occur.

Uff, we finally got to the volcano, and if player 2 on the split screen gets in. A level first, it looks weird and has a lava river in the middle. It gets impossible to progress at lvl 5 as the river is normal water and hence impassable...

after hearing about how cozy this game is, i finally decided to take the plunge with my partner on the Switch split screen and it definitely lives up to the hype. however, the random crashes couldn't be more annoying. we'll definitely be trying the temporary solution above

please look into this Mr. Ape

thanks

Hasn't been fixed for months. Try again next year, or waste your time waiting for patches that break just as much as they fix. This whole thing is such a ****show

Yeah, player 1 activates things on the island such as villagers visiting and the volcano functioning lol. Player 2 needs player 1 to be present for the volcano.

Adding here that I regularly experience all of the above bugs on switch in co-op split screen. PLEASE fix the save game crash bug, it's making the game unplayable. To add to this, my cat has disappeared from both the farm and the pet menu - happened randomly on a day in Fall Year 1 (not the end of the world). Main issue that should be looked at is the save game crash (which also happens sometimes during the day) - it's so discouraging to lose your entire day right as you go to save.
