Switch Update 1.6 causing crash on Switch for split screen

The game has these bugs/crashes for these actions for split screen multiplayer-
  1. When a bomb is placed, the game crashes.
  2. When player is in the mines, sometimes, the animations in the mines will freeze (rocks will freeze when broken and enemies won't move) , forcing the player to exit the mines.
  3. Game will crash at the end of the day (this has occured the most for us)
  4. 1x, player 2 opened their journal and the game crashed.
Over the course of 7hrs of playing split screen co-op, the game probably crashed 1x per hour. Now, there's always been a little bit of lag in split screen co-op, but it's never bothered me or my partner. Just wanted to bring this to Concerned Apes attention so he knew what was going on :-) despite the crashing, I still am obsessed with Stardew and will continue playing! I know it'll eventually be fixed! :-)

I have had the same issue. With the occasional crashing for unknown reasons.

But also with the bombs. And the mine glitch with the stones.

My fiance and I also have been having the same problem. We play split screen on the switch and every 2 to 3 days the game will crash towards the end of the day. Hope this gets fixed soon.

Yes, we are having the same issue, noticed the increased glitching and the bomb placement crashing.

Spent some time fishing and there was a buzz for player 2 when casting rod.

Hopefully gets sorted soon.

Also commenting to report the same issue. Switch version 1.6.9.36. In addition to everything above, lag has definitely increased especially when one player is loading a new area or gets a pop up, or other things like that

Have encountered the same thing in 1.6.9.36 split screen on Switch: bomb placement crashes the game consistently, and game crashes when my fiancé is fighting monsters in the skull caverns while I’m fishing. This is happening pretty frequently (same day has crashed 3 times in a row). The lag/freezing that existed previously is also more frequent now.

Ayyy my first comment :linus:

Unfortunately we have also encountered these bugs, specifically 2 & 3, and frequent lag/freezing mentioned in other comments and posts.

I also have this issue, crashes every 3 - 5 hours, lag is definitely increased.
- If I exit the application every 4 or 5 in game days the crash doesn't occur, but if I keep playing past that it will crash after 5 to 8 days have passed.
- I assume its a memory leak of some sort that is occurring.

I noticed that when the Mine bugs out I can leave the mine and re-enter to fix the frozen enemies and terrain.
- If the enemies are weak enough you can still kill them
- I also noticed that the enemies on a frozen floor can be killed using a pickaxe but if you attack them with a weapon they can no longer be interacted with.
- the loot drops but cannot be picked up its like all the sprites have frozen or are not being properly destroyed.
- You can still break rocks and ladders will spawn, usually the next level will not be frozen i have had it happen where 3 levels are frozen in a row.
- it only ever seems to impact player 1 in a coop game

When either Player 1 or Player 2 uses the Block action on a weapon all weapons in the game share a cooldown.
- I noticed that when viewing a chest full of weapons when Player 2 used the Block action all weapons in my inventory and the chest showed the Red Cooldown as if I had used the Block Action.

Player 2 had their Chest disappear one morning, they were completely gone with all of their contents.
- Exiting the Application and re-opening fixed the issue.

Prior to the newest Patch everything was working fine there was some lag but it was manageable so I can confirm this only started happening after the latest patch.

When the system lags both players freeze and after about 3 - 7 seconds everything catches up, it has made fishing nearly impossible at times.
- The lag appears to happen the most when someone is fishing if we refrain from fishing the amount of lag is reduced.

So far, my game has crashed on local co-op multiplayer when non-hosting player places a bomb, kills "hot head" enemies on ginger island, or uses monster musk.

I'm getting the bug where some levels of the mine are frozen pretty much every time I go into the mine (and every few levels when I'm in the Skull Cavern).

Temporary solution until it's fixed: stairways still work on these levels, and the following floor is generally not frozen (or, at least, seems no more likely to be frozen than any given level). Expensive in terms of stone, but makes the Cavern doable.

Same bugs all found here along with a terrifying bug that sometimes the non-hosting players chests won't load, so far restarting the game has fixed it. But its a nervous moment!

We are experiencing all of these bugs as well. Frequent crashes as well as the issue where the primary player in the mines cannot continue because you cannot pick up items and you cannot kill mobs.

Just wanted to add my own issues with playing split screen (two player) on Switch.
- A significant increase in hiccups where the game freezes and disrupts activity. These hiccups did occur prior to 1.6 but with vastly less frequency and didn't hang up as long. They also really didn't start occuring until we were much later into the game. Since 1.6, they've been a consist and frequent problem in our new 1.6 playthrough.
- A new problem that didn't exist prior to 1.6 where dungeon levels would glitch out, as described by others above.
- What seems to be a sound effect glitch when casting the line on a fishing pole.
- Most frustrating are the game crashes. The initial 1.6 release had us occasionally having the game crash out near the very end of a game day. Since last week's hotfix patch, these crashes still happen with some frequency but most often during the end of day reconciliation after you both go to bed. The silver lining is that this usually means the progress isn't lost, but that isn't 100%.
- Game crashes occured prior to 1.6 but they were infrequent to the point where we are hard pressed to think of a firm example. They are a consistent occurrence and fear now.

Can confirm all your points!
Our game didn't crash a single time before 1.6 though, so this came as a huge surprise.

Same issues. Makes my wife and I run to bed around 10pm to try and fall asleep before a potential crash.

nothing worse than having a super productive day and then it crashes at midnight and you have to replay a full day again trying to remember everything you did.

Writing to update on a few things.

By the end of Y2 and into Y3, we noticed:
- lag/performance dips increased steadily and happen frequently. We have a pretty robust farm with lots of things going on, and I'm guessing that's driving some of this.
- Crashes now happen at variable points in the day, so it's been a constant concern and frustration we have had to work with.
- We also noticed that our money totals at the end of the day are different even though we have a shared everything and aren't splitting funds, etc. I'm not sure if that's due to us taking different skill level bonuses but neither of us could recall seeing different money totals before.
- Our pets disappeared completely, as discussed here: https://forums.stardewvalley.net/threads/pets-missing.34262/
