Now I suspect I've found a possible reason. I'm using Timespeed and putting the default to 1,4 sec a minute -- half the speed. I did not find the butterfly, but I started a second instance of the game, went direct to the statue, then to the area where the butterfly was supposed to be. Found it immediately. How does the game count when it is 5 PM? I know timespeed does not effect (or does effect, depends on how you think it) machines and e.g. mushroom cave (it did affect the latter in previous version; I was getting mushrooms every day), but the buff countdown runs on real time (though it stops when the game is stopped by opening the inventory and when catching a fish). This time there were no regular butterflies.
