Xbox The witch came and all my pets disappeared

I’m using Xbox and doing split screen multiplayer with partner and kid. Before the 1.6 update an alien tube appeared on the farm and our cat and dog disappeared. We assumed whatever broke free ate it lol. But we were new at the game.

Now there’s been an update and it’s been a few months. I adopted 1 turtle, one dog, and 7 cats. I had to destroy the old pet bowls and make new ones. Yesterday a witch came and left a void egg in our barn and all of our pets vanished. Our chests and some equipment seemed to disappear as well. But after restarting the day they all came back, pets did not. All of the hats they were wearing also are gone. I am not sure if I’ll need to destroy the pet bowls to get new pets but it’s so much money

Hey, I'm really sorry to hear that this happened. Pet disappearance has been a big issue with the split-screen console version for a while, and the dev team has been trying to figure it out for a while now.

The good news is that your bug report may have helped us figure out exactly why pets have been disappearing! The bad news is that unfortunately, you'll need to buy new pets, even once the putting team manages to patch out this bug.

Edit: Some additional questions, if you can answer them
1. Were the pets sleeping in a cabin (the home of the guest/non-host player)?
2. Was the non-host player in their cabin during the witch event? Did they pass out, or were they sleeping in a tent kit or another house?
