Stuck on Sam's cutscene

I have ten hearts with Penny, and ten hearts with Sam. I got the letter from Penny one day, missed that evening, then the letter from Sam the next day - I did the Penny bathhouse scene first (I thought I had to do them in order) and now I don't seem to be able to trigger the cutscene with Sam. Is there a way to fix this?

Sam's heart event should still trigger even if you go there on a different day

I don't remember if Sam's cutscene is time-restricted but it's mostly likely that as an issue if anything. You can check the wiki for the correct times to enter locations in order to trigger cutscenes
