Linux stardew keeps trying to use default wineprefix instead of native(?)

for the record, i'm not forcing use of a specific proton version, as that doesn't even launch. openssl-1.1 and xterm are installed.

twice now, i've wrestled with SDV to get it to recognize my cloud saves but it keeps trying to run via the default wineprefix and then turning up bupkis when i go to load my game. when i finally DO get it functional, it reverts upon reboot. steam will "update" stardew to use the default wineprefix again, so i gotta do the song and dance of toggling proton on, letting it update and run, toggle it back off, letting it update and run, DREADING the "setting up wine" popup otherwise i have to try again.

i would gladly use whatever steam is trying to force on me if it just loaded my gotdanged cloud saves, and i'd rather not utilze symlinks between ~/.config/StardewValley/Saves/ and the ~/.wine/ path.

is there some launch flag i need to use to make sure it runs natively instead?

(if any of this matters)

after 4 hours of enraged tinkering (mostly with giving up to use proton and then having a lot of trouble with it), i ended up making a desktop entry for the application in the native steam path (after confirming i am once again using native), setting stardew on steam to not update unless i launch it, and closing out steam entirely. i hate it but it works. i don't even want to play now.
