It also happens A LOT on tumblr and bluesky I’ve noticed. Just one second after my bluesky account was made I got a spam follower.

Whenever I search up images for anything a bit niche there's always pictures on Tumblr for it lol. Back to topic on hand a lot bots on here are for a book company in Canada.

Dude once I saw a post on reddit that showed multiple phones being used for spam (definetly NOT ai btw) it was actually crazy

How much money do they even make for that? The rent can't be high enough for someone to do this. I guess it's more of a side hustle if you got old phones.

I guess it depends on where you live, you can get far on comparatively little depending on your cost of living, and it could be worth it for some.
Not really sure how long it takes to pay just the phone cost back though

To be fair some phones are cheap. You can get a old iPhone 8 for like eighty bucks. Bots don't need the most up to date hardware now do they?

It works simply because of the sheer volume. If only a fraction of people click on the link, the client has already achieved something. And the dangerous thing is not the advertising; sometimes Trojans or similar malware are hidden in the link.

On another game forum that also is xenforo based and where intermittently also such spam episodes happen, a wise mod said in https://forums.terraria.org/index.p...be-more-like-wows-system.143079/#post-3345793 that one should simply report and block the spambot. I agree to that mod that it is more dangerous to reply, interact or screenshot the spambot than just report and block. Also do not click the link as that may be a virus.
