The farm I work at once a week has sheep that like to hang out with the deer and llamas. I don't see them with the antelope much, but I don't know if that's because they are feral and don't want to come near the barn or if they are giving the animals who have three foot horns a wide berth.

I didn’t know antelope could be farmed. Or deer.

I think they need company, not only of their own species. In the farms near the places where I grew, it was common to have horses or donkeys in the same corrals than one or more sheep, because horses and donkeys do not like to be alone either.

We have horses in Stardew Valley, thus I'm considering placing the stable in near the barn of my sheep...
All herd animals work better in company of some fellow-herbivore kind,a nd work well in the same pasturage together in company. Sheep seem, if I understand correctly, to be the ones who do the worst if their own species isn't represented.

But the last time I was in close proximity with a lot of sheep and not just a couple in a petting zoo or fair show, I was 9, and it wasn't my norm.

Not really. They're cute and can be profitable late game. In the early stages, you'll get a better return on investment in cows and chickens.
I only had one sheep early game for the wool to turn into cloth. I never used them for profit but yeah cows and chickens are the golden standard for early game. Especially cows.

I never saw sheep irl actually. Is that strange?

To be fair, I only saw sheep and the like at zoos or nature centers until I got to this farm for work. I am very much a city person. Harvest Moon and Stardew Valley are imaginary paradises where I don't actually have to shovel herbivore poop into a dumpster every day. (I have all the respect in the world for the guys that do have that job, but I am EXTREMELY grateful that I don't. And it's not a real working farm. It's a rich guy's fantasy of owning weird animals.)

Every week I see a truck full of livestock my town is so rural, I smell manure every day and the closest KFC is over 100 km (maybe 50 miles?). I used to live in the city but my family moved. I am one of the few people in town who don't think subways and street cars are extremely gross imo.

I’ve lived in farm country much of my life, mostly orchards and row crops, though I live in town now—with almond orchards just outside. I remember when the first McDonalds came into the rural area where I grew up. My grandfather raised beef cattle on the side and deer used to graze in their pasture. My brother had a rabbit. I don’t remember when I first saw sheep, but there are some near where I live now. Also goats. I used to take care of my landlady’s chickens back in the day. I’ve seen pigs, but only really at the county fair.

No dinosaurs or ostriches—but down the road someone’s raising emus, which are similar.

More or less the same with me, I grew up in a village near a small town, now living in a village near a big town. My great-grandparents had a little "farm" with cows btw, but when I was born there were only the small animals left, chickens, ducks, goose, rabbits, cats and always a dog to watch over them. And a big orchard and garden for the necessaries. Kinda idyllic but also much work in the other hand. SDV somehow reminds me of that all... and I can't imagine living in a (big) city, much too noisy, full of people and traffic and I would probably miss the nature around me.

I prefer the goats to the sheep. Rabbit's give you the wool and so does Emily. Killing mummies and recycling soggy newspaper gives you cloth. Sheep have always seemed kind of redundant to me. But they are less work than pigs.

Yeah I think most country people won't wana live in a city. Same way a lot of city poeple won't live in the country. I'm a city boy from the get-go. I live in a industrial area. Metal clanking and loud drops every now and then. It's not the prettiest town but I prefer it over any village ever.

I had a goat as my primary source of wool at first lol. Pigs are work but insane money.

I moved from the city to a town right beside the factories.
