Shane x Emily

So I've noticed that these 2 always dance with each other during the Flower Dance. Other pairings seem to make lots of sense -- especially Alex and Haley. Even Elliot x Leah seem to be connected as they visit and interact with each other every so often. However, I see no such thing going on with Shane and Emily. Although they seem to live just a hop, skip, and a jump away from each other, Emily never visits Marnie's ranch and Shane is never seen anywhere near Emily's house unless he's walking to or from Joja Mart. In fact, Emily seems to spend more time with her faraway friend Sandy (albeit once a year). The most common conspiracy theory that I hear about those two is that they were the 2 NPCs most recently added to the eligible singles list and they were just paired together at the Flower Dance for the sake of convenience, with a loose connection as Shane tends to frequent the Saloon and because of that, sees Emily every day. I wonder if those two might have a tighter relationship than that in the future (perhaps in a future update or something).

Speaking of possible marriage candidates, I wonder if CA is thinking of making other vanilla NPCs dateable in the future. If so, which might make good candidates?

1. Sandy: If we can date Emily, why not her friend too?
2. Clint: Suppose we can "fix" him? He could make a far bigger case than Shane for the "I can fix him" vibe.
3. Pam: She's single. Some would say that age is just a number... so why not?
4. The Wizard: Stardew Expanded has already done this, but I wonder if CA has ever thought of this in the back of his mind? I tend to think he probably won't try now due to SVE.
5. Marnie: She's single too.
6. Mayor Lewis: Single as far as we know too, though if the Farmer started dating him, I bet the rumor mill in Pelican Town will be flying off the rails!

The other hint to Shane and Emily is in a Clint-is-fumblemouthed-around-Emily cut scene in the bar.

I would add Marlon to that list. And Birdie. You could retire to GI and marry Birdie.

I don't think Marnie and Lewis are exactly single...
True, though I always felt that Marnie getting fed up with being treated as a dirty little secret would've added a bit of drama to their story. Wouldn't necessarily have to be the farmer to make her feel wanted- Marlon seems to have an eye on her.

As for the original discussion, I don't really see Shane and Emily. I suppose "opposites attract", but Shane seems a bit too...sardonic? Like Shane would be far too grounded and Emily far too free-spirited for each other.

Seems 100% this. They are the bachelorette and bachelor who won the fan poll so when made eligible singles in the game update, they were paired at the Flower Dance for convenience. It could have been Sandy and Rasmodius! Nothing will likely ever happen between them and in many ways I like that it makes Emily and Shane the most guiltlessly (?) eligible of the bachelor/ettes. The Farmer is kinda breaking into some of the other pairings though IMO it's abundantly clear that Elliott and Leah will always be friends and no more, making them equally eligible.

Seeing as there've been no more Fan poll options like this in like 7 years, it's a pretty safe bet that no more eligible people will be added to the base game.

1, 4: These were the next fan favorites, based on the original poll and IMO would be great. Both would need a lot more writing for good  events but frankly that's the easy part. The coding is the bear.
2: I dunno, Clint just needs more of a backbone though he does represent some people out there so making him datable would kind of break that.
3, 5. Both Pam and Marnie should be datable as they're the only eligible fortysomethings for those of a slightly more experienced persuasion
6. Lewis is likely a bit older in his 50-60s (I see reasoning supporting many ages in this span) and joins Razz-matazz azz the only more mature man in town. They need to be eligible.

To keep some of their established characterizations, Maybe Marnie and Lewis should be excluded so their current relationship goes unchanged but then why not just change it? I don't have a compelling opinion either way other than more choice is usually better.

The Wizard is an interesting choice, if not dangerous! Poor Farmer Bawb would always be looking over his shoulder for something green and curse-happy to ruin his day!

Shane also hangs out in the pub every day. Wouldn’t be the first time a bartender and a patron had a fling.
Very interesting. I felt Gus and Pam could have a possible thing going, similar to this about Shane and Emily. Glimpse into the future of Shane and Emily (barring the farmer's interference)?
