Prologue: Change of Course.

“I mean, no hard feelings right? You should listen to our words, Ms. Holle.” Francis, her boss, called her to call in early to deliver her the most bull****ting words that she has ever heard. She doesn't look appealing to one's eye? She won't get a raise at this point? Because of what? She looks like a damn man? She has short hair and is tall for god's sake.

That's so different.

Her face strained, managing to give a smile that barely even looks like one. “I’ll, take your words in mind, Mr. Francis.” She turned her heel, the expression on her face dropping almost immediately as she pushed the door to his office open, stepping out. The door slammed shut, echoing in the silence of the office as she let go of the door.

She stands there outside their boss's office, looking like she's about to kill someone and isn't afraid to do it anymore. Terra is probably the only one in the entire company that actually does their job other than rotting away in their cubicle.

Raking a hand through her hair, a sigh escaping her lips as walks back to the table. Her colleagues gave her different looks, maybe pity? mockery? or just absolute disgust? Who knows, she doesn't care so why should they? Like everything depends on someone's looks.

Flopping down on her chair, it creaked in a way how you scratch a damn fork against a blackboard. “F*cking hell..” She muttered, leaning her head back, leg hitting against the drawer underneath her table making her wince at the passing pain, leaning back forward to rub the spot. Then something clicked in her mind, eyes slowly turning towards the drawer, like salvation is calling for her.

A buried memory entering her head, during her childhood; Her grandpa would always take her to the countryside when she was 7-8 years old, making her tend to his farm and care for his animals. She chuckled, reaching for the drawer and saw the letter there. A letter only meant to be opened when she's ready, absolutely ready.

And right now? She's absolutely ready to do anything but work in this damned company that's sucking her life out.

The letter stared back at her as she picked it up, thumb brushing against the seal, a small smile tugging on her lips as she remembered that she would always seal his letters back then in gold wax but this one is the color of her eyes. Hesitantly, Terra slowly pulled the seal open, careful with the envelope as she pulled the letter out.

My Dearest Stardrop,

If you’re reading this, you must be in dire need of a change. The same thing happened to me, long ago. I’d lost sight of what mattered most in life… real connections with people and nature. So I dropped everything and moved to the place where I truly belonged..

Terra ran a hand down her face, lowering the letter as she subtly wiped the tears on her eyes as the rest of the letter just.. made her wish she stayed longer with her grandfather for a moment longer.

“Know that only you matter in my eyes. Grandpa loves you deeply, My Stardrop.”

“Countryside..” She whispered to herself, smiling as she shook her head. “I’ll be damned.” Folding the letter safely and slipped it in her bag. Already facing her computer, to do what? Oh you know.. writing a resignation letter. There isn't a 2 week notice in this company, well sure there is but no one really cared to stay for 2 more weeks so why should she?

The money doesn't concern her, she knows many ways to earn it. What matters is getting the hell out of here and maybe.. actually enjoy life to the fullest this time around.

Later that day, she already packed a small suitcase with very little stuff. Some clothes, picture frames of the family, and other necessities that she thinks will do her well, because she's not coming back (hopefully).

Ring! Ring! Ring!

Her turned her head, lowering her gaze at the nightstand seeing her phone ring and the caller, Henry; Her lover for a year, she invited him to come with her to the countryside, maybe start their life together with just the two of them and have no one trying to separate the two of them.

Well, that was hopeful thinking.

“Go yourself. What are you even thinking? Leaving the city to be a bum? Ha! I guess that fits you perfectly, you belonged there anyway.” That was what Henry, her so-called lover said, the same guy that would have done anything she told him in a split second suddenly switching up? Oh she's pissed pissed.

Running a hand through her short hair, scoffing. “Small d*cked f*ck.” She muttered to herself throwing her phone on the bed, closing her luggage. If he doesn't wanna come then f*ck him and everything about him, he can't even cook nor can he wash his own clothes.

Looking around in her studio type apartment, 6 years after staying in this run down apartment, she's gonna miss the place, and everything Zuzu City made her feel, even if it's heartbreak or an overwhelming pressure in her own job.

The buzzing lights overhead flickered, and the air smelled like old coffee and diesel exhaust. A muffled voice came over the speakers, sounding like it was talking through a tin can.

"Now boarding: Route 17 to Pelican Town. Last call for the 12:15 regional express. Gate four."

Terra walked up to the ticket window. Behind the scratched glass, a woman with messy hair and a faded name tag was leaning on her hand. She looked like she’d been there for twelve hours straight. Without looking up, she pulled a small ticket book toward her.

"One way or round trip?" she asked, her voice sounding bored.

"One way, Pelican Town.” Terra answered, tucking a longer strand of her hair behind her ear, pulling out her wallet to pay for the ticket.

The clerk finally looked up, her eyes scanning the person in front of her, noticing the tired face. She held her stamp ready but paused for a second. "You sure? There's no working bus down there, and barely any passing busses nor trains.”

Terra hesitated for a moment longer than she thought she would have, her hand pausing already holding the exact cash needed for the ticket. If she goes then there's no knowing if she'll be able to come back..

The sound of quarters dropping on the smooth surface made the clerk raise a brow, “That sounds perfectly, actually.” She flashed the woman a soft smile, halting the Clerk for another second before shaking her head and stamping the ticket, passing it through the window. “Next."

Terra dragged her luggage behind her, heading towards the gate said on the ticket. Her heart beating faster with each step she takes closer to the bus, “..Just don't let me die out there, Grandpa.” She muttered to herself and to her Grandpa fully hoping he heard her. She leaves her luggage to the Bus Conductor who's loading the other luggage in the baggage area underneath the bus.

There aren't that many people on the bus, barely filling the seats. Roughly.. 12 people? Christ.

Terra sat right by the window on the right side, plugging her headset and dialed one last number that she forgot to remind, and probably haven't talked to for the longest time. Once the line is connected, “Please don't say anything.. I'm leaving for Pelican Town. Zuzu city ****ing sucks, why didn't you just take me with you back to Germany?” Her voice is growing soft, “I miss you, and Mom too. Come visit me sometimes yeah? Bring a car too.” She chuckles, “..Love you, Papa.” ”I love you too, Darling. Stay safe, I'll send you letters as always.” Ending the call, she fell silent staring out the dark sky, stars adoring it which is a rare sight to see in the city because of the polluted air.

A small smile tugged on her lips, stretching her arms up, puffing her jacket as she got comfortable in her seat. It's gonna be a long ride, and she'll need all the sleep that she can get because something tells her Pelican Town isn't gonna be as easy to maneuver in unlike Zuzu City.
