repeatedly receiving empy mail

I have been receiving mail notifications, but when I click some of them just disappear without anything opening. I do receive some mail, but the "empty" envelopes do sometimes appear as well. When this originally started I had Ridgeside Village, East Scarp, Sunberry Village, Sword & Sorcery, and the associated additional NPC's activated. I have since removed Ridgeside Village (just to reduce the number of NPC's that could send mail and The Woodsman Hurst (the dialogue is giving errors, so I assumed there could be other issues) to try to troubleshoot, but the issue persists.
