Prohibiting AI-generated Messages

I would like to suggest an update to the forum rules to prohibit posting AI-generated messages. I believe that a user forum's purpose is to be an online space for human interaction, and that AI-generated forum posts go against that purpose, as they obstruct human interaction by tricking people into believing they are responding to the thoughts and comments made by another real human being, when in reality they are responding to machine output. I have noticed AI-generated messages in the forum before and they unsettle me, and since there isn't a particular rule against it I wanted to suggest this becomes a rule. It could be added on as a standalone rule or be included within the existing rule about passing off content you didn't make as your own.

As a disclaimer, I consider AI-generated images to be a different matter entirely and do not consider them part of this suggestion.

Going by this announcement https://forums.stardewvalley.net/threads/general-psa-ai-posts-are-spam.31263/ it is already prohibited, but maybe it should be added to the rules section now that AI has become very common.

How can you tell that a message is AI generated though?

I doubt there’s an infallible test but something that is very general or feels copied sets off alarm bells. Something where the poster seems to know something about the game but doesn’t give evidence of having experienced it.

If you suspect some messages are AI generated and they're setting off some alarm bells, feel free to report it. Most of the time, AI posts are from spam accounts. We had one recently where a person was having some "normal" conversations, but their profile was pretty advertisement heavy, so it's things like that we look out for.

I'll say we'll have some leniency towards bug report and suggestion type requests if it's completely on topic and there's the implication the person used a translator, since translators going around sometimes use AI whether the person is aware of it or not. If it's still setting off alarms, though, please report it so we can look through
