So just got the request for the wizard, asking for some prismatic jelly. Finished the quest but I noticed i have another one, can't sell and can't eat. What do we use it for??

You can keep them. It just isn't able to be sold. You can definitely hold on to it. I was trying to see what I could use it for :)

You got 2 because you had a burglar ring on, it rerolls the loot table of any monster you kill, since the prismatic slime has a 100% chance to drop the prismatic jelly you always get 2 if you have the burglar ring on.

Put it in a sign if you want but there is no way to keep them, it'll simply disappear

I actually happened to find another prismatic slime at the time, and killed both and got the two shards. But it's quite interesting that it's gonna dissappear. Can it be given as a gift by chance?

Nah, it's considered a quest item and can only be given to the person that the active quest dictates. Since the quest is over you can't even gift it to the wizard. it'll simply say "wrong person" or smt.

Usually, it disappears. If you put its image on a sign and never move the sign, that was the best way to keep a memento (before 1.6, not sure if that has changed).
