This Thread might contain a spoiler for some, for others it might be useful information about an easily missed opportunity. I assume my title is vague enough for those who don't know and crystal-clear for those who do. ^^

So. I'm genuily curious: How many Crab Cakes do you buy? I often read: As many as I can afford. Oh well. Could mean one, could mean 300. XD And of course it depends on your plans for the run.

Explanation for those who don't know what I'm talking about:
After reaching 6 hearts with Willy, once you enter the beach between 6am and 5:10pm you trigger a heart event with the fish shop full of Crabs. Gus comes by and helps, and he does actually mention it, but he really sells AN UNLIMITED AMOUNT OF CRAB CAKES at the saloon for 550g each. But only for 3-4 days! +1 Speed (and +1 Defense) lasting a whole day (nearly if skull cavern) With 225E and 112H it has the same stats as gold cheese, which is sold for max 483g... BUT OFFERS SPEED! : D

I often got surprised and just did a big purchase before and ended up buying 10-80?

This time I kept an eye on Willy's Heart Situation, then actually AVOIDED THE BEACH for what felt like an eternity! XD XD XD Crafted a lot of bars and jarred stuff and smoked fish and finally went to the beach buy my stock, since I was finally ready to unlock ginger island which was a good reason to stop avoiding the beach. (Spring Y 2 - I was late with my pomegranate).... And then I didn't know how many I actually wanted XD XD XD

112 would be enough for 1 per day for a whole year but I don't necesarrily use them every day (if popping sth else for skull cavern/farming/fishing f.e.) so even more..
Maybe buy enough for 2 years? or more and just never be afraid to even use them for healing? XD XD XD
I ended up going back to the saloon every day and buy just a few dozen more.....and ended up with 330+ Crab Cakes hahahaa I figured Ginger Island would help me getting even richer even faster sooooo..... ^^ Could have bought even more though!

0.

I knew about it cause he mentioned it, this save I went in to see too. But didn't buy any. They still cost a good lot, and we can get them and the improved spicy eel (+1 luck) from skull cavern quite regularly.

I usually forget to buy any. They're pretty expensive but admittedly a good buff food, and you don't get the recipe yourself until later in the game. On the other hand, I generally go with pumpkin soup if anything, in the cavern. As well as the free spicy eel from the serpents and the lava eel pond.

Oh wow, I didn't know about this. Even with this information, I don't think I would buy that many. I feel like I get more than enough crab cakes from going deep into the Skull Cavern.

Interesting! I never had a playfile where I ended up collecting a ton of spicy eels or crab cakes.
I usually use all the spicy eels I get when I do runs into the skull cavern (or sometimes in the mines or the volcano too) which goes pretty fast since I then use a few a day.
As for crab cakes - true, I get some. But never such a big supply as to "allow" myself using them without having to think about it.

To clarify: I'm talking about using a Crab Cake every single day (except if popping sth else for skull cavern or rarely for farming and fishing f.e)
Like, get out of bed and first thing in the morning is:
munch a crab cake and drink a triple shot espresso  :coffee: :crab: Then zoooom through the day :bolt:

Sorry, but 0!

Although i love myself some fresh, nicely boiled crab, right outside saltwater rock-holes, in-game i never paid any attention to this particular food, at all...

Besides, i don't fall for marketing tricks (to urge me towards ultra-consumerism) either. And i certainly prefer some Seafoam Pudding, Lucky Meal or Hot Eel (+1 speed +1 luck), instead!

If I get the event early enough to give crab cakes useful, I’m broke, and once I’ve got money to spare, I usually have enough skull cavern food (and I prefer spicy eel over crab cakes).

So I might buy a couple if I can afford it, but I don’t think I ever bought more than 5.

If I have the money I buy them in bulk. Their buff of +1 speed and + 1 defense lasts almost the whole day. So eat one when you first run out of energy cause it will fill it to brim and then have whatever you normally eat the rest of the time. You will still have the buff unless you accidentally eat another buff food then you would have to eat another for the speed/defense buff to return.
