Farmhand
I’ve been thinking about how much time we spend tracking down the perfect gifts for the villagers' birthdays, and I realized something that would add a lot of charm to the game: Player Birthdays.
Having our own birthday on the calendar would be an amazing feature that makes the farmer feel even more connected to Pelican Town. Here is why I think it would be a great addition and how it could work.
Why It’s Important and Nice to Have:
It makes friendships feel reciprocal: We spend all year giving gifts, remembering schedules, and throwing items into the Luau soup. It would feel incredibly rewarding to have the town give a little of that love back to the farmer.
Deeper Immersion: It adds a personal milestone to the year and makes the farmer feel like a true resident of the valley, rather than just an observer.
A New Early Game Choice: It adds a fun layer to character creation.
How It Would Work:
1. Setting the Date & Favorite Item
When creating a new farm, right under the "Favorite Thing" box, there could be two new options:
Birthday: Choose a Season and a Day.
Favorite Gift Category: Choose a preferred gift type from a dropdown menu (Foraging, Artisan Goods, Mining, Cooking, Crops).
2. The Town Calendar
Your character's face would appear on the town calendar outside Pierre’s shop on your chosen day, just like the other villagers!
3. Receiving Gifts
On the morning of your birthday, the town reacts to you:
Mail: You wake up to a special birthday card from your parents or Sandy containing a nice item or some gold.
Villager Interactions: When you talk to villagers that you have a high friendship level with (maybe 4+ hearts), they will wish you a happy birthday and hand you a gift!
The "Favorite Thing" Mechanic: The gifts they give you are based on the "Favorite Gift Category" you picked at the start of the game. If you picked "Sweets," Gus might hand you a Pink Cake. If you picked "Mining," Clint might give you a Geode or an Iridium Ore.
4. Special Events
Spouses & Roommates: If you are married or living with Krobus, they will greet you first thing in the morning with custom birthday dialogue and a special breakfast.
Surprise Party Cutscene: If you enter the Stardrop Saloon after 6:00 PM on your birthday and have a high average friendship with the town, it triggers a mini "Surprise Party" cutscene with the villagers.
