Switch Online multiplayer inaccessible

Hi, when I load up the game and click the button to start online communication, the game fails to load. It gets past the initial text on the screen with the join and host buttons, but from there I can’t move the cursor. It gets stuck in the box. I also can’t press b to get out of it. From there, I have to hit the home button and close the program. It takes a long time and then indicates that it only closed as a result of an error.
I updated software and the system, no dice. I also power-cycled which didn’t work. WI-FI was up and running effectively. I couldn’t troubleshoot my way out of it, so it might be a bug.

Can you check any of your other games to be sure they are working correctly.

Also if you disconnect your wifi or go into airplane mode... what happens then?
