Never Modded Before!

Hi so basically I have never modded anything but I really want to add an NPC version of my friend's boyfriend. I lowkey hate the guy but she loves him or whatever and refuses to marry anyone in game. Where do I even get started on trying this???
Edit: Is there any way I could just switch Alex out for her bf? Like could I change the names and tweak his looks?

This should help you get started at least, it goes through changing the characters appearance enough to get you started.
