Negative responses from new spouse

Hi, I'm a new player on my first playthrough and am having a pretty annoying issue that I can't find an answer to. I just got married to Penny and every time I embrace her I get a negative response, even when it's our first non conversation interaction of the day. It never does a heart response. This doesn't make sense to me. Am I doing something wrong? Or is it possible my game is bugged?

That sounds like a bug. I married Penny on my first playthrough and while I did eventually get negative responses, it was years later from ignoring her for days while doing other Farm stuff. Just after marriage while I was actually interacting with her every day, I never received a negative response. Even if you don't Gift them something, spouses shouldn't default to those interactions. Question: Does she stay in Bed at all? That's what they usually do along with being unhappy. If not, then yeah, bugged. Sorry!

Is this happening over multiple days? It is possible that your friendship drops bellow 10 hearts between proposal and marriage.

Yes it happened over a few days, it may have dropped down to 9 but I didn't notice. After about four days of her doing it, she is now acting appropriately I think

Are you giving her plenty of melons, poppies, and emeralds? Gift your spouse loved gifts frequently to keep them happy.
