Mystic Stone Spawn Formula

I'm trying to figure out the best way to get a prizzie without going into skull cavern for a friend bc she HATES it. The wiki is super specific about the chances of a diamond node spawning in the Mines, but it only says that mystic stone chance is "increased by mining skill and daily luck". Does anyone know the actual in-game formula for calculating this?

I don't know about the formula and did not ever see a formula about it. Maybe @FilthyGorilla or @BlaDe can help you. However, if the objective is to get a prismatic shard without diving into the Skull Caverns, my advice is to clear the Quarry every day until a mystic stone spawn there.

Then save the day by going to bed!

The next morning, head to the quarry and open the mystic stone. If there is a prismatic shard in it: lucky you. If there isn't: restart the day and go through it without opening the mystic stone. Try again next morning and rinse and repeat until you get a prismatic shard from the mystic stone. This works because the drops of a mystic stone in the Quarry are rolled every morning, not at spawn.

This is how I got all my pre-SC prismatic shards.

Also, killing monsters in the Mines once floor 120 is reached has a drop rate of 0.05% for a prismatic shard (this is 1 prismatic shard for 2000 monsters killed).

Honestly you really aren't going to have a huge part in manipulating where/how they spawn as it's dependent on non-player related variables.

That being said, the best way to get a shard without skull cavern (while also passively looking for mystic nodes) would be elevator floor resetting to farm shadow monsters. Monsters like the shadow brutes have an inherent chance to drop a prismatic shard, on top of the chance every monster gets once you reach floor 120. Furthermore, that chance is doubled (unliked the floor 120 chance) by the burglar ring, which gives you around a 1/667 chance for them to drop a prismatic shard.

That sounds pretty bad, but isn't too horrible as selling the drops from shadow monsters is quite profitable, and while you're resetting floors (115, 105, 95, 0, repeat), you'll stumble on quite a few diamond nodes and - hopefully - a couple mystic nodes too, both of which spawn more frequently the deeper you are.

That's a very good strat, thank you!

Unfortunately I don't think she's gonna go for that, mainly because it requires lots of time AND lots of combat - which is the reason she doesn't like Skull Cavern. Will keep in mind for my own playthroughs though!

She can still do it without the combat portion, just up and down the elevator, though it's notably worse on multiplayer (don't remember if you mentioned you were playing together or just advising her)

Idk why I always forget that's a thing, lol XD thx, I am just advising her so the multiplayer pausing isn't gonna be an issue
