My xbox controller will not work for Stardew Valley on my Mac...

I have tried EVERYTHING I have seen on here and nothing will work. Plz help me I just wanna play this with my pc gamer bf over the summer. We're gonna be 7 hours away from each other and I love this game.

ok so this is a bit tricky. xbox is owned by microsoft, which optimizes their controllers to windows users. thats what may be causing the issue.
im not a mac expert since i never had one, but there are various tutorials on youtube!! if you have any issues i can see what to recommend tho!!
