My friend can't join my hosted co-op

My friend just got Stardew valley and I wanted to help him join my hosted co-op server. One of my other friends are already playing on the server. Whenever I give him the invite code and he enters it, he sees a page where it shows my friends profile on the server and when he hovers over the profile and it says, "This character belongs to another player." There is nothing else on the page, and we are having problems. Please help!

Hi friend
Try making him the host this time, to see if the problem is with the saved data or something else...and also try starting a new farm to make sure everything is fine. If this does not work, let him join you from his STEAM friends. When you are in the game, it will appear to him that you are playing, then he can join you from there without needing an invitation code.

If none of this works at all, check your farm settings and make them match these settings.
