Modeling behavior for the children

My 11-year-old daughter came up with a really cool idea for the children.

Instead of making them useful the way spouses are useful in helping on the farm... Make them partners that copy what their parents do on the farm. This creates a relational dynamic with the children instead of just a functional dynamic.

What that mechanically might look like, is to have children do whatever the parent is doing on the farm. When watering, the children water. When petting animals, the children pet animals. Perhaps even when planting, the child hoes one square and plants one thing. Maybe even less functional things like opening chests that the player opens.

I love that my daughter thinks of parenting as a thing we do together. This might be a fun way to reflect that.

Aww! That's such a sweet idea.

One thing in Stardew Valley is the spouse area of the farm. The little outdoor area where your spouse will do activities.

Pictured here is Abby's and Emily's outdoor spaces. These lil areas!

I think one way this idea could work is if the children joined our spouses in their little area, perhaps copying them, or just standing nearby.

In conclusion, your daughter is a genius! :iristar:
