Use touch to move for harvesting crops and walking around. Make your joystick and buttons large I prefer around 267 but whatever tickles your fancy. Use the button and joystick for combat. Tap to move for mining. Always keep the control toggle button on screen to make your life easier. If you can't get rid of a scarecrow or a furtinure with tap to move you should use buttons. Auto Attack is decent but definitely not ideal. You'd lose hp and especially against hordes of enemies utterly usless.
