Mac Mac OS Tahoe: Freezing while fishing bug

Hello! I am having an issue that is causing my game to freeze, making me force quit the application.

This happens both if I run the game through Good Old Galaxy or directly from the Applications folder.

The problem happens when I am fishing. What happens is that I bring my character next to the body of water, get out my rod, cast, and wait for the hit. If I pull my line out before the hit, after the hit (without catching the fish), or without getting any hit at all, nothing happens.

But if I cast and click at the correct moment (the hit), my game will freeze, and will never unfreeze. My CPU usage jumps up to 102% and doesn’t go back down until I force quit the application.

I do not have any error text or records of errors.

Game version v1.6.15 build 24356.

Save file: Skysight_443136705.zip

I am using a 2024 Macbook Pro running MacOS Tahoe version 26.5.2 with an Apple M4 Max chip.

In-game language is English.

I am playing single-player.

I am using a keyboard and trackpad.

Other pertinent information: I have five other saves, and in the others that I have tried the same issue happens (fishing and clicking to catch the fish causes an immediate game freeze). I have been able to fish in the game before, but only a couple times. The game is only a few days in on a new farm.

A weird quirk is that the bug will happen 100% of the time if I fish from the side of the body of water. However, if I fish from the bottom (into the river on the farm, for example), I have been able to catch trash.

I have tried going back three different versions until the game would no longer open my save, and the issue happened in all three.

Please let me know if you need any other information! I would really like to play Stardew Valley again and I feel this bug makes the game pretty unplayable.

Hello, back again with an update.

I have been able to get this Stardew Valley save to work on a different device (via the Good Old Games Galaxy save format). Thus, I think that the issue must be a hardware one, but I am unsure of any details. The computer I'm using is literally new out of the box, only a couple weeks old, and has no modifications after purchase directly from Apple.

Thanks to anyone who tried to find a fix. I still cannot play on my new computer, which is a downer, so if anyone figures out what hardware is causing the hiccup, I would appreciate your thoughts.

Happy Stardew Valley playing, all.

Visit an AI chatbot like Gemini or Claude, and ask it to help you capture and analyze dotnet debug/profile traces while the game is running and stuck. Then post the logs you generate. I’ve done this while debugging mods.
