If you could ask concerned ape anything, what would it be?

Mysterionz

His plans for the game in the future and if a sequel would ever come out. I doubt it would though as he seems pretty anti micro transactions and money…. Unlike current state of a certain company that I won’t name here.

"Junimo Kart. Why?"
Because it's fun : )

I'd ask him when haunted chocolatier is coming out
It will still be quite a while

"When is Pam being added to Fortnite?"
Probably never lol

WHY did you nerf Prismatic Shards (drop chance) and Legendary Fish Ponds????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

JUST WHYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was playing, deep in the skull caves, and felt that I was getting too many prismatic shards, so I adjusted it a little. As someone else pointed out, there are other ways to get prismatic shards that were added, balancing it out. In general I will nerf things because I want the game to be fun. If something is too powerful, or you get rewards too easily, it's less fun (in my opinion). There's satisfaction in having to work hard and struggle to get a reward.

How “concerned” were you when the fan base wanted drinkable mayonnaise so badly that you felt compelled to add it to the base game?
lol, I still think it's a disgusting idea, but I also like giving players freedom. If they want to do something like that, that's on them

Tough one, but perhaps something along these lines:

*Did you learn something during development of the game that could have been done differently? Code-wise or features?
*What are the main differences between Stardew Valley and Haunted Chocolatier?
*If you have a toothache, will you rub a copper bar on it?
*What advice do you have for other programmers out there that want to create independent games?
*Do you have a secret stash, and what is it?
*Do you envisage crossovers between the games, like for example being able to grow cocoa in SV, and process it to chocolate?
1) sure, a lot of things could have been set up in a way that made it easier for me (and eventually others) to add more content. I didn't know Stardew would be so popular though, and never imagined I would still be working on it almost 10 years later. One example is the way I created the events/cutscenes. It's a very cumbersome, horrible system. I did a lot of things in a brute force way.

2) Different town, different people, different mechanics, it's more of an RPG, it's not a farming game (though there is some farming), there's more mystery and paranormal stuff, the pixel art is different (believe it or not), the music is different, combat is a bigger focus but it has more depth and the whole feel of it is new (everything is written from scratch, there's very little "copy and paste" from stardew), boss fights, stronger sense of progression, and more

3) personally no, I would chew on a clove though

4) focus on results quickly, don't get caught up too much in technical stuff. I see a lot of programmers who will spend a long time setting things up so that they can render 100000 sprites on the screen at once. But it's like, "are you ever going to do that?". Personally I only add things to my engines as I need them instead of planning everything out beforehand.
Practice, make games. Make a small game if you don't have the vision or bandwidth to make a big game right away.

5) I have a meme folder

6) Nah probably not. Haunted Chocolatier is its own thing

Probably just how he came up with his gamertag. I'm so curious as to why he chose ConcernedApe. I'm guessing the "concerned" part was because he was extremely stressed while developing the beginnings of Stardew all by himself, and "ape" is likely just a nod to people. So ig I can guess it on my own but I'd like to hear his thoughts.
It was just some random name I picked before I even conceived of Stardew Valley. I think I had some reason at the time for the choice, but I don't even really remember. At some point, people knew me as that so I felt like I couldn't change it.

Why did you make the living hat so hard to find? Also Why did you make the swap to previous save Button!?!?
I didn't envision that every person would try to get the living hat. I saw it more like, one in ten thousand players would find one and be puzzled by it. Swap to previous save is an emergency feature for the (hopefully unlikely) case that there is a game-blocking issue with the current day save.

Why does everything have to tie back to Grandpa? Why can't the mastery mechanic be something Dwarvish that the farmer discovers that Grandpa didn't know of?
I'm not sure what you mean. What else ties back to Grandpa other than the mastery cave? Unless I'm missing something, it's pretty much the only thing that ties back to grandpa.

I'm not opposed to making a sequel. Maybe after Haunted Chocolatier.
I wouldn't add micro transaction though...

"Will you ever let us marry Sandy?" Seems good
Maybe

if the villagers had to fight in a battle royale who would win and what would be their method of winning
Pam with the Shotty...

lol JK
Probably Wizard, with magic.

If he was excluded, than probably Kent...

Wait my legendary ponds are still working. I’m on mobile, they haven’t got to our latest update and sounds like I don’t want it. I agree on prismatic drop rates, amongst other drop rates like clay and ore in non dangerous mines. The early game is soooo much slower than it used to be. I don’t start over as much for that reason.

The frame story, of course. It has to. But it can end when all town features are complete and Grandpa can rest in peace. But he also shows up at the Summit for perfection in 1.5 and so when 1.6 added the mastery mechanic, it just kind of feels like one more place where the PC is unable to escape Grandpa's shadow, like there is no discovery the Farmer can make where he won't find Grandpa's ghost saying "yeah, been there, done that." That's my perception, anyway.

I think in multiple of those cases it's more a matter of grandpa congratulating us on pushing the farm past what he himself had done, especially in regard to perfection, him "beaming with pride" and his shrine changing to something new, something he himself couldn't do.

Also hey CA 👋 👋 ,nice to see you around

Grandpa is a core part of the storyline, he begins the game for you, so it ties everything together that he shows up at the very end of perfection. There are many, many things in the game that have nothing to do with grandpa, though: ginger island, the movie theater, the dwarven forge, Qi's challenges, every other part of perfection except the final cutscene, trash bear, the wizard's quest line, special orders, and many other things.
It sounds like you just don't like Grandpa. That's okay.
