If I upgrade a coop or barn, will it destroy the items I've placed inside the building?

I was just wondering if upgrading a coop or barn will destroy any items that have been placed inside (heaters, mayonaise machines, cheese machines, loom etc)

No. Upgrades doesn't overlap the existing space, they all will stay wherever you placed

I believe the upgrade can, though only if you're upgrading from basic -> big coop and only the tile to the left of the hay trough. Otherwise you're safe, though stuff does get shifted around.
