There are loads of people who take things literally and lack context-awareness, and intelligence (however anyone might choose classify it) has little influence on this trait. Someone who knows a fact may find it important but not care or even know about the nuance surrounding its relevance. Demetrius falls into this and I have no problem with it. Because I was a clueless younger person once who didn't understand the nuances of meaning and ended up with an unnecessarily strict view of "how things worked" like our friend Demetrius. It can and will happen to everyone on some topic or another, no shame in it.
The shame comes from not trying to broaden your understanding once you get the idea that there's more subtlety and context out there.
Everything contains subtlety and that's the color palette that life experience is painted with. Demetrius and people like him will get there though may take him longer than many. It took me a long time to realize and then try to expand my understanding, and I am fully aware I won't get there until the day I perish. Or maybe the day after, I'm slow with some stuff and easily distr—
Oooo!
Demetrius is different, we all are and I don't hold anything against his characterization as we see him frozen in one phase of life. Some of the bachelor/ettes get the chance to change and grow but the rest of the Valley doesn't, which is a small shame and leads to IMO some overly negative judgements of them. I'd marry D if given the chance but also given the ah,
prerequisites needed to marry him, I will take the opportunity to marry the now-somehow-available Robin first.
Well… Seeing as those particular circumstances would of course need to be evenly applied to all— for
fairness sake of course!
Maaaaaaybe Robin comes in second.
