Idea

I don’t know if I should have put this in the mod section, but as it is more of a silly idea than a more already created, I thought I’d put it here. Still, if a mod wants otherwise, I’m happy to move this thread.

But without further ado…

I’ve heard a lot of people saying that they want to marry Robin, which is a perfectly fine take… but why does no one ever want to marry Demetrius? I need some thoughts. I mean, I’d marry Demetrius, and I’ve only married girls in my playthroughs.

Maru's 2-heart event tells me all I need to know about Demetrius. Not to mention his comments in the quest where Robin builds the 4 post bed, and again in the cutscene with the tomatoes being fruit/vegetable.

To me, he's the typical intelligent person, thinking they are always correct and everyone else is always wrong. They may be smart, but don't have a lick of common sense.

All that said, he's still a good guy. His character flaws are just ones that push my buttons is all.

I feel you. Although me and my sis are qualified for MENSA and we have no problem accepting we are wrong.

Many take a lot of the Demetrius content out of context or just adapt what others say online into their own rhetoric unfortunately, which leads to far more hate towards the character than would naturally form or is even deserved, which is why characters like him and Clint seldom come up in such discussions.

That being said, I'm not sure that even if the option was open, I'd break up a pretty functional family, though might if they added a spouse portrait for him (I have a very low bar for in game morals)

There are loads of people who take things literally and lack context-awareness, and intelligence (however anyone might choose classify it) has little influence on this trait. Someone who knows a fact may find it important but not care or even know about the nuance surrounding its relevance. Demetrius falls into this and I have no problem with it. Because I was a clueless younger person once who didn't understand the nuances of meaning and ended up with an unnecessarily strict view of "how things worked" like our friend Demetrius. It can and will happen to everyone on some topic or another, no shame in it.

The shame comes from not trying to broaden your understanding once you get the idea that there's more subtlety and context out there. Everything contains subtlety and that's the color palette that life experience is painted with. Demetrius and people like him will get there though may take him longer than many. It took me a long time to realize and then try to expand my understanding, and I am fully aware I won't get there until the day I perish. Or maybe the day after, I'm slow with some stuff and easily distr—

Oooo! :flushed:

Demetrius is different, we all are and I don't hold anything against his characterization as we see him frozen in one phase of life. Some of the bachelor/ettes get the chance to change and grow but the rest of the Valley doesn't, which is a small shame and leads to IMO some overly negative judgements of them. I'd marry D if given the chance but also given the ah, prerequisites needed to marry him, I will take the opportunity to marry the now-somehow-available Robin first.

Well… Seeing as those particular circumstances would of course need to be evenly applied to all— for fairness sake of course!

Maaaaaaybe Robin comes in second.
