I just got the owl statue and strange capsule in a row

That's quite lucky! While the 1.5 update did make these events less rare (from the realm of most players won't see these events in 1.4, to many players will see these events, but they aren't common in 1.5). That said, while I've seen a lot of people sharing that they've had these events since the update, I don't know that I've see anyone get them one after the other like you did.

Something similar just happened to me the other day! I'm not sure when the owl statue showed up because I don't remember hearing the owl, but I got the message that there was an explosion. When walking around my farm, I found the meteorite and about 15 spaces away from it was the owl statue. Unfortunately I don't have a strong enough pickaxe to open the meteorite yet!
