How to get shrimp?!?

As the title says I cannot seem to get shrimp, I have gotten literally All but two other fish (witch are two of the uniques).

I have several Crab pots in the sea. I am several years in and have had one there since late year one or early year two. I check on them almost every day.

Do they only show up during a certain time of year or something? Am I placing them wrong? If so why do other fish appear?

Are you replacing the contents of the crab pots each day? If it catches a piece of trash for example and you don't take the trash out (and put new bait in) it won't catch anything different: the non-shrimp item will just stay in there forever. That's the only explanation I can think of for not getting any if you're checking several crab pots daily over a very extended period.

Yeah I replaced the contents.

I read a thread on another site where it is sworn that it matters where you put the crab pot on the beach. I personally don't believe it, but why not? Move your pots around and see what happens- what else has worked?

I’m pretty sure I saw a mod that showed the locations for the next day. So it’s random, but predictable.

This thread was showing certain areas (in this case, the big rock off the West pier) simply would not catch shrimp, lobster, or oyster. Using math I did not understand, this fella figured that the amount of items pulled in to NOT be at least one of those 3 would be crazy odds- like almost 2 billion to one. Unfavorable RNG indeed...

If you're on 1.6:

Using shrimp bait in crabpots will double the odds of catching shrimp. So if I were you, I'd check Willy's shop every day (he sells a different targeted bait each day). You can also check the travelling cart each day it's in town and Krobus' shop every Wednesday to see if they sell a shrimp you can put into a bait maker (you'll get 5-10 shrimp bait per shrimp). I've done this with a couple crab pot items I needed and definitely saw a change in what I caught.

Until you can get targeted shrimp bait, try deluxe bait. It reduces the odds of catching trash and increases the quality of the fish caught in crab pots.

Or just be patient. It will show up eventually. I've had to wait quite a while sometimes for a shrimp or lobster to appear. Shrimp bait sounds like a great idea if you can manage it, though.

I just put down crab pots in front of Willy‘s along the pier and restocked with regular bait from his shop. Got lobster for Elliott and shrimp pretty quickly

I moved my three crab pots from the mountain lake to my beach farm, and have caught a shrimp four out of fives times so far. Which means I'll be catching less shrimp in the near future, as it evens out the numbers of what I catch.

Note that shrimp can only be caught in salt water locations. If you are using that river that divides the two sides, that might be treated as fresh water. I place them along the side of the peer.
