In history, names have always existed to describe something, they were never just strings of letters to make a cool sounding word, they all meant something, names like Catherine originated from ancient Greek and are supposed to mean purity. In the Middle Ages is when last names started to pop up, such names often were what the person did for trade, names like Hunter, Smith, Fisher, Tailor, Shepard and Miller, all come from that time, and what also came from that time would be last names that come from one's father, if you were the son of a man named Jack, chances are that your last name would be Jackson, the same goes for names like Nickelson, Johnson and Richardson, This is not only the case for human names but also city and settlement names, A lot of names for things in North America are English, Spanish and or French renditions of Native American names, cities like Chicago are named after what the Native tribe around the era called wild onions, Shikaakwa was the word and the French settlers hearing this eventually had it find it's way to the city name, Chicago. Toronto is the named after what the Iroquoian called the land as Tkaronto or "Place where trees stand in the winter" Mexico city, and Mexico itself was named after the Mexica people who lived there (Pronounced, Me-she-Ka)
In Stardew Valley I tend to name my things after real people and places in history, and to what names best fit the thing I'm naming...sorry about the long ramble.
