Pigs are insane money makers, one barn full of pigs can make up to 1,5 million gold (at high friendship with maxed out foraging, etc.). Coop full of chickens is just 134k. The problem: the deluxe barn requires 43 000 gold, 1350 wood, and 650 stone, then 16 000 for each pig. Rushing spring will require buying some of the resources from Robin (they are quite cheap in the first year).
People did challenge runs with 1 million spring Y1 by rushing to the volcano and smoking lava eels, etc., but rushing pigs in less than 28 days requires very explicit planning, as the deadline is super short. So: Riverlands Farm (fish smoker), super-rain game seed (catfish nearly every day and mass crops), and go. The strategy - what to do with gold - reinvest or start building and upgrading the barn? Pigs won't happen before late spring, when all the crops (and fishing) are sold, so reinvesting for like week 3 payout seems the best.
Things like investing 7.5k for an iridium rod are probanly no worth it, even as the Legend fish pond would give 20-25K if started early (10-15k in profit), but a fiberglass rod with a big fishing buff could suffice. Axe/pickaxe upgrades are rather a must to clear rocks and trees quicker, so you can buy less stuff from Robin. Fish smoker will use more coal than you will gather, so getting a Charcoal Kiln is a priority (and then wood from Robin if needes as it will still be way more profitable when selling smoked catfish).
A good day of cat-fishing :)
Recycling can give coal, which is worth more than gold ;)
Few non-rain days are for the mines (or clearing down a lot of trees)... that seed is overrated next to the power of the ham!
Wild seeds don't need scarecrows and can be multiplied easily when rain does the watering... still not the highest profits ;) As we are wood-starved, mass-crafting tea saplings isn't worth it (but a stash of gold quality leeks and alike are nice for gifting)
Day 25 of spring with 5 pigs. Could have pushed for 6, maybe 7 by selling more or having legend roe processed earlier.
Spring ended with 245k in earnings. Fishing 10, farming 9, mining 5, foraging 6, and combat 4 with a steel axe and pickaxe. The summer strategy would be to push for foraging 10 and max out on pigs. Bait maker for a super cucumber into a fish smoker (day at the mines, night at the beach) or day at the lake with bait maker sturgeons that also can go into a fish smoker if enough coal/wood. Joker card: monster musk from book trader if you get duplicate combat books (dust sprites farming!), and coal if you get duplicate mining books.
5 pigs in summer will make big above 100k from truffles, depending on their quality. The same 5 pigs at high/max friendship on average will give 3 truffles per day, which would push income at 300k+ without Botanist and almost 500k with Botanist. Having 12 pigs pushes that to around 1,2 million per season (minus winter). That friendship 3x multiplier hits hard.
Getting friendship will take time, so the income will start to pick up in the fall, and then stop for winter. Fun challenge, but unsure if it's worth it for spring Y1 :] It's probably better to reinvest into some short-term money makers, spring-summer, get gold axe (and pickaxe), clear the cindersap forest a few times (spring full clear, before green rain full clear, post-green rain full clear...) to then build and upgrade a barn in fall and prepare pigs to start from spring with some level of friendship and have stable path to second barn and so on.
If 1.7 adds a challenge, small farm or alike, then going pigs or sheep with a shepherd could be the most income-dense solution (next to big sheds with crystalariums and/or garden pots with deluxe retaining soil and hops at endgame). Note that desert/quarry/train station can be spammed with trees and mushroom logs as well.
