Welcome to the Forums, Shineyfarmer!

Unfortunately the v1.5 updates for iOS and Android with Ginger Island are still being worked on. I'm not sure if you know anything about it but ConcernedApe needed to find a new developer for those ports after a long time of the initial developer not getting it done, and that second developer is still working on it. I'll search for and post some links to more definite information.

The initial post here contains an update from CA on Dec 2, 2021:

thank you thank you thank you for answering this!!! that’s what I wanted to know, hopefully the new developer will get this updated soonish.
It should be mentioned that people have been waiting for the 1.5 update on mobile (Android and iOS are both still waiting) for a while, and we still have no idea how long it will be until the new folks will get it done.

Also, just because I'm autistically particular, the proper term for the folks working on the mobile version isn't "developers" but "porters" because they are "porting" the game from PC to mobile.

I knew I was using the wrong word but had no idea what the right word would be.

Probably had too much Steve Ballmer on the brain.

I’m seeing lots of frustration (please don’t correct my grammar) on the lack of updates-porting-transporting for mobile users online. More than a few have called for the App to be removed until it has the same in game features?! Perhaps some progress every couple of months would show good faith in your iOS cash cows?

There have been a few updates from CA in the past week. Please see @Magically Clueless 's post here:

I’m not sure iOS players are a cash cow. It’s a pretty cheap game with no buy ups and just keeping up with platform updates costs developer time. I would love to support ConcernedApe and crew by purchasing a Ginger island port as an expansion pack or something…

The good news for mobile players is that the update is reported to be out by the end of the year. See more info about it here: https://forums.stardewvalley.net/th...for-mobile-updated-8-2.8097/page-9#post-80244

I agree that mobile version of the game generates less cash per copy sold than the console or PC version. But this is a broader market and usually developers for mobile make huge numbers by selling far more (less expensive) games than they would make with more expensive version of the same game on PC/console. Most of the time, the price difference is explained by:
  • the fact that gaming experience is usually less good on mobile (smaller screen, less controls, playing in transit leads to lesser gaming experience...)
  • the fact the mobile users were taught to have more games on their device that they play less long (can be extended to many mobile apps to be honest)
So in the long run, it is possible to generate more money with a cheaper mobile version of a game than with a more expensive PC version. I have no idea if this is the case for Stardew Valley though.

Nonetheless, I also agree with you that what Stardew Valley players get for their money (especially mobile users) with all the nice original content, new updates and support over the years for one single payment is really, really impressive. It reminds me of the "gool ol' days" 👨‍🦳🎮👾 when we could buy a copy of a game and play it as long as we want, getting regulars free updates/bug fixes from the studios and still play the game on our PC/Console long after the studio was closed or have dropped support for the game. And I'm extremely grateful to ConcernedApe for that ; I consider such policy as part of the gaming experience.

As for me, I have more than one copy of the game and I show my support to ConcernedApe by buying SDV merchandising, probably more than I did for any other game so far.

Hmmm... I've bought a few copies of SDV as well. PC/Mac, iOS, Switch, Board Game. 3+1.

But I think I have that beat with Ultima III. Original boxed copy for Apple ][ and C=64 (I think these came in the same box but maybe not??), 3 different Macintosh copies (68K, PPC OS X, Intel OS X), and GOG Ultima collection for PC/Mac. The Macintosh copies are from Lairware, an independent developer that Richard Garriott licensed U3 to for Mac development only so it has its own timeline and custom graphics options. No Apple M# version, though!

I must be doing this wrong then. I have 0 games on my phone. Well, did download a Sudoku app ages ago, but not sure that would count as a game.

Don't know what the game costs on other platforms, including mobile, but on PC the game is fairly often on discount, though not very deep, so I reckon the average purchase price is a fair bit lower than the listed price. Believe I bought it at full price on GOG, but these days a lot of people don't buy games unless they're on discount, and often quite deep as well. From what I understand, discounts on Switch for example is almost unheard of. In general, not just for SDV.

However, seems like developing the game for mobile has had big stumbling blocks, especially now for 1.5, so the costs on that side is probably quite considerable. And after all, CApe did say recently that the new game was unlikely to be made for mobile, probably for this very reason (expensive/difficult/tech limitations).

Yes, this was very telling to me. It could be that making updates for the mobile platforms is simply more/too complex (for this game) due to how development works there and thus not worth it. Except that he's committed to v1.5 in SDV already so needs to see that through.

And I have to assume that developing for multiple platforms is simply not efficient. See: the Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4 and XBOne. Frankly also see: all the various forked versions of non-Java Minecraft before they were amalgamated to a single version: Bedrock.
