Hi! Just wanted to give an update of things to look out for while browsing. Sometimes I catch them and luckily they're not too frequent, but they do slip through the cracks. To follow up on the previous topic, spambots are still a problem we have to deal with way more than we'd like to, and though we do catch most of them, sometimes there will still be posts. A common type of spambot will often make a "normal" post that gets by censors and then try to edit in a link later that's either phishing or advertising. Some of these links we have blacklisted, but as we evolve, so too do the spambots, so there will be new links that get past us.
A big tell for these bots is that they'll use an AI generated response. You can typically tell when something is AI generated if there is overly polite word usage and they're only tangentially talking about a topic. For example, a popular post that gets spambots is about the Casino in Stardew Valley-- the bots will miss the "Stardew" part and just go into gambling and what casinos are or something. They tend to list positives or negatives about a subject and will basically never reference themselves.
Replying to these posts isn't harmful, but please report them if you think something might be AI generated. If you're a normal member and you decide to reply with AI: you will be banned because we're not taking chances with who is or isn't a spambot.
Thanks for reading and PLEASE be cautious on what you click on!
