Help! I’ve been playing stardew for about a year and I still genuinely cannot fish! I don’t have a problem with the minigame, it’s just that when I cast the line, no fish come whatsoever… any ideas on whay to do?

I finally learned properly how to fish during my 4th playthrough... for me the trick was to left click the second the icon above your head shows you something is nibbling at your rod. Nobody told me, I just found out by chance more or less, it was sooooo annoying btw. And you get more hits the higher you level your fishing 😏

Also get bait. Always have bait. Never leave your house without bait. ALWAYS. HAVE. BAIT.

BAIT.

So if fish aren't biting frequently for you - make sure you're casting as far away as possible. You're more likely to catch fish and not trash as you get farther from shore. Use the fancier rods and equip tackle that increases bite rate so you don't have to wait as long for a nibble. And yes, bait makes a big difference.

You'll still need to react to the nibble by pressing a button. Probably the same as you used to start fishing, if I'm to guess by the various games I've played that has had fishing as a part of it. I play on mobile, so I just have to touch the screen.
