I have smapi 4.0.7 and it still crashes like that. some other users seem to be having that same issue as well

Most of the issues are due to people not updating it, but there are some potential problem mods apparently that still use getCharacterFromName - back when I posted, it was the general guideline from Pathoschild and those on the Stardew Valley Discord. At present, it looks like at least Socializing Skill is having errors, but there may be others. It's being worked on.
