Idea for a Stardew Valley Mod: Monster Farming & Automation

Hi everyone!
I’ve always loved how creative Minecraft players get when designing fully automated farms—especially with mods like Automate, which makes building machine networks so satisfying.

In Stardew Valley, we can automate a lot of artisan goods, but there’s still a big dependency on mining and fighting monsters to gather essential resources like ores, monster drops, etc. That’s where my mod idea comes in:

Concept: Monster Taming & Resource Farming

The idea is to bring a whole new layer of automation by allowing players to raise and tame monsters to passively generate resources, similar to how animals work—but with a twist.

How It Works

  • Monster Eggs: Rare drops from monsters (low drop chance) that act as a starting point.
  • Special Buildings: Each monster family has its own dedicated building (costly, built with rare resources). Only one type of monster per building.
  • Egg Hatching: Place an egg in the corresponding building to hatch it.
  • Taming System: Feed the monster daily (maybe with new food recipes). Taming progress increases over time.
    • Feeding can be automated like animal care (via storage).
  • Resource Drops:
    • At 50% tame: Monster drops 1 resource daily (as if it had been slain).
    • At 100% tame: It drops 3 resources daily.
    • Drop tables can evolve based on taming progress.
  • Monster Cap: Up to 5 monsters per family/building.

Expansions

  • Unique mechanics for each monster type:
    • Some are obtained via eggs,
    • Others through capture, gifts, quests, special fights, or rare shops.
  • Add quests, lore, and special items tied to each monster.
  • Add a Monster Journal to track taming progress and drops.
  • Maybe interactions with other villagers (fear? curiosity? lore?)

This is still a rough concept, but I’d love to hear your thoughts, ideas, or suggestions on how to expand or balance this! I think it could add a fun and immersive way to "farm" combat resources, give more use to monsters, and offer long-term goals for late-game players.
