Dehydrator

Absolutely, while it may seem a tad weak on the surface as its base good only raises the value of a base good to roughly that of gold, its strength really emerges when paired with artisan, more than doubling base value of crops and making it worth it to use on any quality of crop (including iridium but not by much, not that you're intentionally getting iridium crops with the intent to process them).

It's primary use case is with crops you get in bulk like blueberries and cranberries due to the volume you obtain them in overwhelming other machines, but because it processes so quickly (each dehydrator can process ~35x what a keg can), and is super cheap to set up large-scale processing, you'll basically be dumping absolutely everything into it until you start building out kegs/jars for higher per crop profit.

What people also don't really realize though is the extent of its viability. Often framed as something only for the early game, it's honestly strong enough to just be your sole processing throughout the entire game, as even perfection doesn't really require that much money compared to how much you make with kegs/jars, and dehydrators are much cheaper/easier than either of those options. (If you think about it, even with just the island and greenhouse of crops, so long as you don't complete perfection in a single year, just dehydrating is enough to make the money for perfection and a good chunk more).

I was curious because i was writing a cheat sheet for myself (because I enjoy writing useful information for myself) and I was curious but now that you mention this does seem worth more money then casking the wine so i can focus my cask on starfruit wine for maximum money earning.

I have 20 dehydrators in my cave placed next to walls a quick 10 seconds visit every morning is enough. I do only cranberries one seasons worth of berries should last you untill the next same season I had around 1000 cranberry bushes (I have way too many, more than 15 stacks), I use 100 a day but it is a steady stream of money gets me go by 4100 a day (I am playing on 25% profits) which is not great but adds up quickly I could make 100s of more dehydrators but I don't want to waste a shed or space for them and I would run out of everything in no time. Don't discard dehydrators on regard of other machines and vice versa use them all but in a finely tuned amount if you make/invest on one too much you will lose profits

I found best works with melons if you can farm good amount of them and cranberries. 2 melon harvests during summer will last enough till fall then cranberries can take over, don't bother with blueberries imo you only get 4 harvests comparing to cranberries which is 5 also worth alot more.

I wouldn’t waste greenhouse space with melons only to use them for dehydrators if I were you they wouldn’t cover the cost of even occupuying a space in greenhouse mind that 1 dehydrator takes 5 pieces of fruits so you would need 100 piece of melons each day for 20 dehyrators my set up is done for mass amounts

dehyrators are only viable if you have good amount of crops otherwise with limited minimal amount of crops you will have more success with kegs and jars

I had 1k melons for each harvests so 2k melons in a single summer which is more thanany amount of kegs and jars can handle but for dehydrators it’s good amount

Yeah absolutely, something I didn't direction mention previously but which you basically brought up is that dehydrators are an excellent transition or supplementary machine, allowing one to build up their main processing while still making a load of easy money from the dehydrators, or using the dehydrators as a secondary machine, processing excess that the kegs/jars are unable to handle.

This allows you to still make the most of some higher value crops such as starfruit in casks (which requires kegging), but can make you money as you build up those kegs, or allow you to just keep a few kegs and minimize how much work you have to do each week
