Could retaining soil please either all work or all not work?

The annoying thing about retaining soil is it basically becomes useless as soon as you get your first watering can upgrade, because when you've got your 1x3 watering can it's just as fast to water 3 as 2, but only 1/3rd of your ground stays watered, so it's just as fast to just water everything like the retaining soil wasn't even there!

It'd be much nicer if it either all worked or didn't work. So you either have to do ALL your normal watering, or no watering at all that day!

Side benefit, this would let you skip sprinklers more, so your spouse watering your crops would actually mean something!

Yeah, Retaining Soil is pretty useless until you get to Deluxe Retaining Soil which stays watered permanently. Same goes for Sprinklers which are almost useless until at least Quality and optimally Iridium level. But at least those are predictable where they water, Retaining Soil is only somewhat useful if you still have a basic Watering Can that's never been upgraded but that still doesn't make the soil randomness any less annoying.

But think of the satisfaction of waking up to find ALL your crops already watered?
But think about the dis-satisfaction of seeing that 2 of the 50 plants retained their water? Plus, if you have a spouse, you get an automatic retaining soil that retains ALL crops (for that day)

Yeah 100%, this is a common suggestion and it makes sense to me from a gameplay perspective. Currently all but deluxe retaining soil is all but useless, as it's more time and effort to water between the gaps of retaining and quality retaining soil than it is to just use an upgraded can to water everything.

I think it'd be enjoyable to many to have something that incentivizes deciding what they do on a day depending on if the retaining soil works or not, too, but I can also already imagine someone complaining because their retaining soil didn't work 10 days in a row...

Fr fr! I barely ever use the fertilizers, unless if it's speed grow for a quest, but I totally agree. It's so annoying and I end up watering all my crops anyway out of habit. As somebody who takes waaaay too much time watering my crops, it would be nice to have an all or nothing feature. It might not be changed, but someone should at least mod it.

I agree. Imperfect retaining soil harshes my mellow!!! Just remove the low-level stuff, and maybe make the intermediate level like 90% effective.

I never use retaining soil anyways lol.
I use the deluxe one to have plants growing in garden pots inside my house because I often forget to water them and end up with half grown plants two seasons after I planted them

I threw my garden pot away LOL.
Yeah when Evelyn gives me one, i don't need it at all so it goes either in trash or the second foraging chest which also works as a storage for random stuff idk where else to put. Garden pots don't become useful until much later in the game for me

I use my main farming chest for stupid stuff too. I keep stuff like my one starfruit seed scarecrows and spare sprinklers there along with wood and fiber BUT garden pots aren't tbh important to me.

Yeah at first its my chest for basic resources that holds all the uncategorized stuff, then I move it to the foraging chests cuz I always have 2 of them and the second one often has spare slots

I like coloring my chests so it's pretty easy to categorise stuff.

I keep my ore with basic resources like wood stone sap, tapper products, bars, coal, etc. Brown is for trinkets, gems, spare weapons i dont want to sell. I throw farming and foraging stuff together, and also the first green chest acts as a sc chest. Furniture goes into whatever chest I have spare slots in, gets trashed or js placed somewhere in the house
