Mac Changing Button Mapping in Steam Not Changing in Game

I am trying to remap buttons on steam to use in game. When I go into the controller configs and switch around the buttons that I want, it does not reflect those changes in game. Essentially I am on a nintendo switch pro controller. When I use the nintendo button layout, the x and y are switched in game. When I disable nintendo button layout a and b are switched but x and y are fine. Even if I remap buttons to the keyboard equivalent of the input it still defaults to the controller. Is there a fix for this?

Did you ever sort this out? I am having this exact issue and can't decide if I should just resolve myself to one of them being backwards. It's driving me crazy!

Hey guys! Just fixed this I'm playing on windows but should be the same on mac. I remapped the whole controller on steam>settings>controller>begin test>setup device inputs. When your remapping do all buttons normal EXCEPT Y and X do them swapped. When it says do Y click X and vice versa! Hope that helps.

This was a HUGE help!! However it still wasn’t working for me; But I discovered you also need to make sure (1) in game steam overlay is turned on (settings>in game>enable steam overlay while in-game) and also (2) that “enable steam input for controllers” is turned on (settings>controller>enable steam input for Xbox controllers). Granted I do have windows 11, not Mac, and idk if this will work exactly the same for non Xbox controller types but I would assume it does. I also imagine using the “use Nintendo button layout” instead of manually remapping would work so long as those other settings are also in play but I haven’t tested that cuz the manual remapping was absolutely perfect
