Cave Carrots in Garbage Cans

The Wiki says that cave carrots can be found in garbage cans. I have played over 3 years on my current save and checked 1523 trash cans. The predictor shows that none occur in in the first 10 years of this save.

Does anyone one know if this is broken or is just RNG?

I've found at least one cave carrot in a garbage can. I'd say it's just RNG. The chance for most items (apart from various forms of trash and seeds) is tiny, and depending on what can it is, a can-specific item could take its place, like cookies in the Mullner's can, or the daily special for the saloon.

I'd assume it's just being unlucky, I haven't checked this code specifically, but there are things that get cycled into the loot pool for trash cans based on progress through the game (like certain mines related loot when you get down in levels, desert related loot when you visit the desert, etc.), so you only get less and less likely to find certain items as you progress in your game.

Thanks, I can understand that. Also, I believe that introducing items with mods can change the pool too? But I'm not using any modded items (only a recolour) and I haven't been down the mines. That's why I wanted cave carrots. I looked in the predictor for 25 years - nothing.

Thanks everyone.

Just to finish this off, I visit the travelling cart every visit, I've read the Alleyway Buffet, Vincent hasn't had a stall at the Desert Festival and Pierre hasn't sold one at the Festival of the Winter Star.

I wanted cave carrots because I was interested in using the Raccoon quests to get unshipped items, specifically cinder shards for a stingray fish pond. But looking at the predictor, for every two possible quests for unshipped items, there seems to be one quest requiring five cave carrots.

Yeah you can enter the mine cave to trigger Marlon’s cutscene. He will give you a rusty sword but you don’t have to go down into the mines themselves. Maybe that will help? Really most world seeds are rather unlucky in at least some things. It is not meant to be an easy game. Earlier versions were even harder. The only source of hard wood in 1.4 was secret woods or if you chose forest farm you were better off. It took forever to get enough for horse and house. (Ginger island and dangerous mines didn’t exist and it was very rare to find a piece or two as a mine drop,
