Switch Cat Disappeared

I have 200+ hours on Steam and convinced my wife to buy for Switch and start a farm. She's finally gotten into it but today discovered our cat (Miso) was suddenly nowhere to be found. This is something I had not experienced or heard about. We checked online only to find many complaints about this happening, many from over a year ago with still no fix we could find.

I get this is a small detail in a game with tons of features and things to do but it's very frustrating that this is still a problem with no apparent fix, even a quick one like adding a way to get a pet back quickly. Pets are a fixture of daily life on the farm and having a known issue where they just disappear in a game so driven by emotional investment doesn't sit with me. I hoped to at least duplicate our cat from Marnie but she wants 40k! It's borderline insulting.

Is there any outlook for fixing this? My wife was pretty much immediately done for the day and isn't sure she even wants to continue now.

The dev team has been working on fixing this pet disappearance issue on Switch as soon as possible. We hope to have it fixed for the next patch, but finding the cause has been difficult, so we can't promise that just yet. I suggest avoiding adopting a new pet from Marnie at least until the next patch comes out, because this issue may happen again after adopting it
