1.6 Update Cabins

With the new 1.6 update, for a single-player game, can the player ask Robin to build a Cabin on the Farm and then directly ask her to upgrade it without any other player joining the game and without joining the game from another machine or device as different player?

In other words, has anything changed with the mechanic that each separate Cabin must be upgraded by a separate unique player from version 1.5 to 1.6? If it has, then it might be cool to have a main Farmhouse plus a few fully upgraded Cabins that are nothing more than "Keg Mazes" from basement to attic!

The farmhand who owns the cabin still has to be the one to upgrade or paint it.

You could still make your keg maze cabins, though. Just plug in a controller for local co-op and use it to control the character yourself and do so. Then have the character go to sleep for the day and turn off the controller to play as your fatmer. Have the farmhand exit the game once the upgrade is done and just play single player from then on.

Or ask a friend to do all that while you play as your farmer.

Well, thanks for the reply.

I also think it might just be a cool mechanic if the host could have the option to be "very generous" in providing his guests/future co-op players with fully-upgraded Cabins/Farmhouses before they even start playing.

Imagine stuffing a fully upgraded and expanded farmhouse inside the little trailer. That would be the funniest image, attic and cellar included.

Right now, I would prefer never to make my game co-op.

For if I did, then I would be all too tempted to use the glitch to duplicate items such as Prismatic Shards, Batteries, Iridium-Quality Rabbits' Feet, and even Ancient Seeds -- all of which would give me an unintended game-breaking advantage way too early in the game.

Now if ConcernedApe ever fixes that glitch, you let me know 👍

Yes I thought this. But it won’t let you remove anything or upgrade without another player. Now if you have a friend or family member willing to play just to get you those cabin upgrades and remove the junk in there then you could use it however you wanted. I’m not sure if you can enter it at all if they are logged in though.

This place has all the magic you could possibly want from cutesy, sentient tree fruit to the Ferngill Republic's version of 6 decades of computer technology: Giant Teleporters the size of grain Silos, whittled down to small versions that zappp you 'round your Farm, then to mostly portable branded single use versions, and finally the iTeleporter Return Sceptre.

So borrowing a bit of Dimensional Transcendentalism from Doctor Who in order to cram a fully expanded house into a modest trailer seems almost trivial. Even Harry Potter stole and reused that one, it's practically expected at this point and a snub if ignored. Do not disappoint the Dimensional Transcendentalists out there!

You can enter and do basically anything besides upgrading and moving some furniture in another persons house.

It's very easy to play multiplayer with yourself though, just by joining yourself and controlling both players, with a controller or by launching the game a second time through its file.

If anyone ever wants some guidance on how to do so just message me, I've done it plenty of times and its very simple.

I can't figure out how to DM, but I'm interested in figuring out how to do this. I originally set up a multiplayer game with a relative who is never available to play and I want to upgrade their cabin without bothering them to join the game.

You can only paint a fully upgraded building (exception: you can paint the roof of your Farmhouse at any time) but you can do it for free at Robin's or the Wizard's Shops. Pro tip: the Wizard has no life/wife so is always there and open until 11pm! OK, except Festivals but that's still more available than Robin.

Buildings you can paint:

Farmhouse
Stable
Barn
Coop
Shed
Cabin

There is a book behind and to the left of him which you unlock during the Witch quest. It allows you to buy the Obelisks, Junimo Huts, and that ugly, accursed Golden Clock but also allows you to paint your farm buildings, and move your farm buildings at any time the Wizard's open.

In my current save, i experiment with cabins and upgrading them, to replace shed(s). What you need:
1) Plug in a controller.
2) Load game and "Start Local Coop" from the menu with the controller icon, or Coop button from Start Screen and Host Farm, load save.
3) Cabins placed where you want them to be.
4) 1 at a time, secondary player joining in, taking from your chest the (hard)wood, going to Robin, pressing "Upgrade".
5) Staying in game, ideally doing nothing.
6) Remove every item/decoration from inside said secondary player's cabin, trash them, going to sleep at your main player house's double bed each night, until all upgrades are finished.
7) Save game, quit game, rinse and repeat, but this time create a new secondary player and continue on that pattern.

Keep in mind that a fully upgraded cabin, can also take the secondary upgrades, from removing walls between certain rooms, opening up more space etc. They are pretty costly to min-max. But they can hold 586x machines, if you follow the wiki's layout (found under "keg" entry); plus, you can make a secondary cellar, filled to the brim with casks, skyrocketing your production line! So many machines are more than you can handle though, so if you plan to incorporate more cabins, opt in for other machinery in the rest... Good candidates are: Crystallariums, Preserve Jars, Garden pots, Dehydrators, fish smokers if you fish a lot or maintain many ponds, etc!

BONUS! If your main character in the save completed Evelyn's special order at spring, you end up with 8 coffee makers (1 from your main, +7 from the cabin owners)! Check the mail of the secondary players joining in! (pretty handful for Mr.Qi's fresh cooking endgame quest)

No problem at all, here you go

So:
1. Launch the game regularly from steam, this will allow you to only launch the game once but it's the easiest to keep track of as the baseline so this will be your 'main' character that you'll be hosting from
2. Open the game from multiplayer as usual (if you haven't made cabins do that whole set of steps first)
3. Now we're going to find the executable the game uses to actually launch, this isn't exactly tricky to find but it's pretty deep in your files, I only know how to find this for windows but if you're on other platforms the process as a whole won't be dissimilar, it'll just require some digging of your own
4. Open file explorer, then open the folders listed below in the exact order (and don't get distracted by similar names as there are a few similar routes you can go down that lead you to entirely different locations):
--> This pc --> OS (C:) --> Program files (x86) --> Steam --> steamapps --> Common --> Stardew Valley
(This folder is where your game files are located, not the save files, the actual files where the game itself is stored)
5. Scroll down in this folder until you find a .exe file named "Stardew Valley", it is the only file with an icon that matches the actual stardew icon (a white chicken)
6. When you run this file (confirm if any popups come up) it'll launch the game, you can open this as many times as you want, though it can get confusing navigating through all of them, that's why I recommend using the steam app as your base one and not opening too many instances at once
7. Now you can enter the second instance and join yourself through IP, the actual multiplayer process is very simple

Ask if you have any questions
