Solved (But or not?) Can't proceed in mines because of large rock blocking path.

This occurred on regular mines level 19 on Spring 10 year 1, so we could not break the big rock. We were unable to proceed and a ladder did not spawn in the area we could access so we were forced to terminate our mining run.

I don't know if this is supposed to be possible or not, but it happened. This is the only time this has ever happened to me in over 250 hours, so it's probably not a critical issue.

As far as I know the boulders in the mine can be broken with even the most basic pickaxe and I don't think that was changed in the patch. Did you try breaking the boulder?

It is simply a mine boulder. You should be able to break it open and get a pile of stone. It takes quite a few swings, though, until you upgrade your pickaxe.
