Switch BUG: Unable to start Ginger Island cave puzzle

I am unable to play the Simon Says puzzle on Ginger Island.
When entering the cave, the torches are lit up and I can interact with the crystals but the game never begins. Interacting with the statue has no effect. I have never been able to start the puzzle.

I am playing on Switch, single player, v1.5.4

As it turns out I was able to achieve perfection despite this bug, meaning I got credit for completing the puzzle despite having never played it. So that ended up working out ok but I still would have liked to try the game.

I'm not on switch, but I'm also having that problem! No matter what I do, if I have an empty slot and I click on the lion, nothing happens. Torches are already lit when I walk inside.
I'm on my laptop, and I've never modded. Please help, I'd love to try the game!
